This is definately the most relevant election in my adulthood if not in my life time...
A lot of people say they are not going to bother to vote because it won't make a difference anyway (because our voting system is kinda messed up with electoral votes counting, ect) but if every one, nationwide, votes, it WILL count!!!
Ok, off my political soap box now.... gotta go get showered up and stuff so I can go vote 😀
I've decided to wait until after the "lunch crowd" voters are done.... lines are building up now because people are going over on their lunch breaks from work... I'm bringing Aaralyn with me so I'd like to be in line for as little time as possible.... bringing snacks and drinks for her, any other suggestions for easing boredom of a 5 year old while standing in a long line (queuing up? 😉 )?
go vote and get it out of the way, im sick of hearing about it! 🙁

I'm sorry if I've bored any body with all my election talk but it's something that is extremely important to me and to Aaralyn...

Thanks Love!!
Check this out!! teeee heeeeeee I love it, really pay attention to the message though!! k, now I'm done talking about it and heading out in the rain to stand in line to vote 😜
I'll be staying up this evening to watch the progress of the results 🙂
The US elections this year are almost certainly one of the most anticipated and talked about in history. More money spent on campaigning than ever, the first potential non-white President, the first potential female VP, a nation which seems united in it's disappointment of the last 8 years under GWB and the need for real and fundamental change in the policies of the great USA.
As the world's only real remaining superpower, it would be ignorant to think that tonight's result won't affect every single one of us, no matter which country we live in.
I personally am really hoping that Obama succeeds. I think it may be closer than polls suggest - For a segment of America it will be hard to place a vote for a black president regardless of their political beliefs (see The Bradley effect) - but I would love to see a landslide victory.
IMHO, America needs to radically change it's views on energy, the environment, public health, foreign policy and social equality - and whilst Obama isn't perfect, I believe he's the best chance that America has to change both the quality of life for US citizens and to change the view that the world has of the USA.

Quote:That's awesome! the line was really short so Aaralyn was good... they did a vote at Aaralyn's school... McCain, 20 votes, Obama 100 something!! I was not surprised about that though!
at our polls they have kid voting
I just wanted to add that was an extremely good feeling to be able to vote for a non-white person for president today, I felt like I was a big part of history making!.... Can this really meant that we are moving forward atleast a little bit with race issues too?? I hope so!
YES!!!!!!!!!!!! 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀
Quote:Well Rob, we pretty much got our landslide going by the electoral votes 😀 Some of the states that are usually red have gone blue... So not only did the US elect a bi-racial president, he turned alot of republican voters to vote democratic this time! 😀

The times they are a changin'! 😀
Stayed up late in the UK to watch results coming in last night - what a fantastic result - Congraultionas Obama!!!!!!!
I can't stand politics and all that crap, but I think in this case the right decision was made, Well done to US voters, lets hope it's what is needed...
Lets face it, can't do much worse than Bush now can he, anything has to be a huge positive after that imbecile ( and yes, we have our fare share of those running this country too )
/applaud
Should be interesting to see what happens over the coming months now 🙂
I managed to stay up to see McCains concession speech (around 4:15am our time 😲 ) but had to sleep before Obama appeared in Chicago. Watched his speech this morning.
I think McCain was humble and noble in his concession - something which can't be said for some of the audience who were booing and jeering not only Obama, but also Palin when she was mentioned! (Blaming her already?)
I'm really glad that Obama won. Although it's irrelevant in relation to how someone can run the country, the fact that America has elected it's first non-white President validates the work that so many amazing people have been doing to change attitudes towards race in the States for the last 40 years.
He has a huge expectation to live up to now, and very difficult situations to step up to in so many areas. I wish him all the best, and look forward to seeing America turn the corner of the last 8 years.
I cried (joy) - I was so emotional - in a way nothing to do with me but it seems such a huge thing 😀

I can say with honesty, I am once again proud to be an American!
Sadly, I've been reading some blog comments, ect.... and there are still alot of ignorant, intolerant, close minded people here 🙁 The times are changing but we have a way to go with race/cultural issues for sure!
I also wanted to add that it was an amazing thing to watch last night with Aaralyn.
I let her stay up late because I've been talking with her a lot about this election and it's importance too and I wanted her to see some serious life changing history go down last night. She was feeling my energy big time and was very excited with the outcome as well!! She doesn't really realize right now the personal significance this has to her, with her being a bi-racial person but someday she will! 😀
She also said one her little "Aaralynisms" last night.... At one point, McCain gained several electoral votes as the polls were sending in the final counts and I got nervous and said "OH no!" Aaralyn said "What's the matter?", "don't worry hun, McCain just got some more votes in but Obama is still ahead".... in her most serious little voice, with tears in her eyes, she said "but mommy McCain is a bad man" and I said "I don't know that he's really a bad man, I just don't think he's the best choice for President" she said "Oh yes, he is a bad man and if he becomes president, he will destroy the world"... all I could do was ponder that one for a while...
