Major surgery for Cory tomorrow (today)
I think I mentioned that she has some very large tumors on her boobies again (one has gotten huge over the last couple days) so she went to the vet the other night and we had x-rays done, she is still cancer free elsewhere in her body so we're opting for the surgery again.
This time she's going to be under for quite a while 😭 they will be giving her a complete hysterectomy, including removing all of her mammary glands (a masectomy basically).
This goes to show that it's never too late to spay or neuter your pets and it's so much healthier for them in the long run. For those of you who don't know, my dog was never spayed due to anestesia allergies. She had a surgery about 9 months ago and she had no bad reaction to the anestesia so even at 12 years old now we're having the works removed.
Hopefully she'll be around with us for a few more years now because she's otherwise a very healthy dog it seems 🙂
Just keep her in your thoughts that she handles the longer general anestesia ok this time too! Thanks guys! 😘
😘 I hope it all goes well for Cory and she makes a speedy recovery.Big hugs to you all let us know how she goes.
Hope all goes well 😘
Awwww hun, it must be very scary for you. I know i would be sooo nervous, but i'm sure she's in very good hands and all will go fine! It's amazing what they can do for our pets now isn't it, almost anything that can be performed on us can be performed on our cats and dogs now! 😘 Xx
awwwww poor baby. will be thinking of her hun xxx
Ah, best of luck for your furry friend xx
Thank you guys! Mike just picked her up and is taking her in because he has a meeting to go to right after. Aaralyn and I gave her big hugs and kisses and told her we'll see her later.
They may have to keep her over night tonight but I will give you all an update on how she is after I speak with the vet after the surgery.
Thanks for the good wishes guys, she's such a sweet dog and she's been a good friend to me over the last 12 years 😍
hoping for a speedy recovery
Just got off the phone with the vet... Cory's coming out of the anesthesia well. She removed several tumors but she said there were still some that they couldn't remove or (sorry tmi) there wouldn't be enough of her skin left to sew her back up 🙁
So now we hope that the spaying will keep the estrogen levels from exasperating the tumors that are left and making them get big at a rapid rate. The vet did indicate that because of the multitude of the tumors there was a good chance of malignancy, I opted to not pay an extra 200 dollars to have the tumors biopsied, if they are cancer then they are and atleast she'll be comfortable and happily with us for a little while, hopefully a long while!!
Thanks again guys for the kind words today from me and Cory!
I'm glad she came through the anaesthesia OK hun, sorry they couldn't remove all the tumor but at least she has had most of it.
Hope you have many more happy years with her 😘 xx
glad Cory's surgery went well.
Mums dog had the same as Cory and (touch wood) since her hysterectomy her tumours havent come back. Mum also didnt sent the tumours for biopsy because she felt that anytime Sheba had left with her would be better than the life she had before (she is a rescue dog)
Thanks!! Alex I hope your mum's dog continues to do well!! YAY for rescues!!! 😀 they are the BEST kind!! All of mine are rescues too!
Mike should be here anytime then we're going to pick her up!!! 😀
Aww, was thinking about you today hun, so glad her surgery went ok. Sorry they couldn't get all the tumours out but here's hoping she has many a year left with you yet! I bet she will be soooo pleased to see you! 🙂
Dougal is a rescue too, he was in kennels for over a year before we had him 😭 He's such a lovely dog though, i think we were really lucky to find him 😍 Sounds like you were too Tammy! Xx
Dougal sounds like a great dog too!! and he's adorable!
Cory's in her chair still very much drugged up 🙁 she's really out of sorts right now but hopefully by morning she'll be a little more back to her self.... I have a feeling she's going to be in a bit of pain though 🙁
Aww bless her hun, How is Cory doing now? I hope she isn't in too much pain Xx
thanks for asking Mandy! She's still really out of it today.... she's only gotten out of her chair about 4 times, twice to go out and go pee pee and then to drink a few sips of water a couple of times. I called the vet and told them this and they said just keep an eye on her and if she's not perked up by tomorrow we should bring her in to be checked. Poor thing had lost a bit of weight and now with her stomach fur shaved and the skin all tucked and stitched (lots of stitches 😲 ) she looks so pathetic. She was still wobbley when I took her out for potty and almost fell over once trying to squat 🙁 She has made an attempt at wagging her tail a few times atleast today which was better than last night!
Hopefully she'll be better tomorrow but looking at it, it's got to hurt her 😍 🙁
Aw I hope she feels better soon!! Big hugs from me to Cory!! 💐
Thank you! She's a little bit more perky today but still not quite herself, I don't think she will be till she gets all those stitches out! She did eat her first bowl of food since before her surgery last night! 😀
Aww hun, she sounds like it is really hurting her. It may have been the anaesthetic still in her system a bit that made her all wobbly like that? It must be sore though. I had a c-section with Lolly and that hurt LOADS must be similar for her. But it is all for the good and i'm sure it won't take her long to perk up hun. Let us know how she's getting on hun! 😘 Xx
I will hun, thanks babe!
This is what she's been doing pretty much for the last 2 days.... excuse the yuckiness of the chair, which is "her" chair and needs to be cleaned but she's always in it now LOL
