Belgian police have issued an identikit drawing of a man reportedly seen with a child fitting a description of missing Madeleine McCann.

Madeleine, four, was snatched exactly three months ago from her family's holiday apartment in Praia da Luz on the Algarve in Portugal as she slept next to her younger twin siblings Sean and Amelie as her parents dined nearby.

A woman spotted a couple and a young girl bearing a resemblance to the British youngster in a restaurant in the town of Tongeren on the Dutch border on July 28. They left before police were called but the child's drink was taken away for tests.

A police spokesman in Brussels said: "The woman told us the little girl bore a striking resemblance to Madeleine and was behaving nervously.

"She said she got up to call us as soon as she saw the girl but when she returned to her table all three of them got into a car and left. We are taking the sighting very seriously.

Jolien Houbrech, who works in the De Pauze restaurant in Tongeren, said she served the English woman and Dutch man who were with the blonde-haired girl aged around five or six.

Miss Houbrech, a 21-year-old student, said she had no suspicions at first about the couple, who she assumed were the girl's parents, until another customer approached her.

"A woman who was a child therapist came up to me and asked if I noticed any resemblance between Madeleine and the child.

"She said that because of her work as a child therapist she had noticed that the people's behaviour was not that of normal parents. After she said that, I said maybe she should call it in to the police."

The couple, who were driving a car with a Belgian number plate, left before the customer had raised her concerns, Miss Houbrech said.

"Now I wish I had done more and paid more attention to them and maybe tried to hear the girl talking, but at the time I didn't notice anything suspicious about the couple," she said.

Meanwhile, Madeleine's parents are heading back to Spain to continue with their search. Gerry and Kate McCann are visiting Huelva, the capital of Andalucia, where they will put up posters of the toddler across the city.

The McCanns' trip will take them along the main motorway between southern Portugal and Spain, which some believe could have been the route taken by her abductor.

The couple's quest to find Madeleine has seen them travel to Spain before, as well as Morocco which lies just a short ferry ride to the south.

Speaking on Thursday night, Mrs McCann said: "Gerry and I want to remind people that our lovely little girl, Madeleine, is still missing. Today will mark three months since she was cruelly snatched from her bed.

"We do not know where she is, or where she has been taken, but would urge tourists and residents in Portugal and Spain to keep looking for Madeleine. All we want is to be reunited with Madeleine and to be a happy family once again."

Information can be provided to an international Crimestoppers number on 0044 18 83 73 13 36, Crimestoppers in the UK on 0800 555 111 or Portuguese police on 00351 282 405 400.

I sure hope something comes of this and it is her and she's alive and well! Keeping this little girl in my prayers for sure!

Thanks for posting the updates.

well i have just looked at the first post and its been over 3 months since she went cant believe its been that long no sure wether i think she gonna come home or not now but i pray she does
xxx

If this was her and she's still alive why don't the people just give her up? If they've kept her alive this long I can't believe they'd harm her now so that means at some point they will be found. Although I must say I am quite surprised if it is her, sad as it is I thought she'd be long gone by now. But if it is her and they get her back are they just going to let her parents get away with the fact they neglected their young children? Let's face it if it were a young single mum in England Social Services would be so judgemental and probably take the other children into care and charge the mother with neglect. But oh no because it's a professional couple they get treated differently and the authorities turn a blind eye. I just hope wherever she is she's not suffering

I agree with you GTTkel, I hope she isn't suffering and if she is still alive then shes with people who will actually look after her properly.

If the police do manage to get a DNA sample from this then it should confirm one way or the other if it was Maddie. I do think that if she is still alive she is probably being looked after as the sort of people who would have taken her in order to harm her would have killed her by now as the search is too big. (Does that make sense?)

i have been watching all the maddie sites and.......i do personally belive she is alive just something doesnt add up somewhere! can i leave u all thinking about something well u know that pic off maddie playing with dad and broth/sisand there is a man stood behind wearing sunglasses he appears in lots of early photos with murat! why a friend of murats in complex ???????????????????

see you from kerry ..

thanks kerryann for keeping us up to date. such a sad thing.

They've just announced on BBC news that madeleine's mother has been officially declared a suspect in maddy's disapearance. She says she is being set up by the police. They say new forensic evidence from the apartment (the blood on the wall?)and the mccann's rental car has come to light... sigh...I just don't know what to believe any more...I find it so hard to beleive she had anything to do with it, heck, I don't want to believe it. Can you imagine if she did do it- she would be the most hated woman on earth I think and would probably be in fear for her life. People have invested so much emotion and support for them, its unthinkable that they could do it...I'm trying to keep an open mind...what do other people think?

I'm really with you on just not knowing what to think. I do know that from the start something has felt wrong about the whole thing, It has never seemed like just a disappearance. I'm not jumping to accusations, I just think there is something to it all that hasnt come to light yet. Either way what a poor little girl, whatever she has gone through x

I know exactly what you mean- I'm not saying they did it but there were lots of things that didn't add up to me about the timings they told the police- eg. some said they were checking every 15 mins others said every 30 mins. I believe the mccanns also said they could see the apartment from the tapas bar- now when photos of it were printed in the newspaper, there is no way you could see who was going in or out of the entrances/exits- anyone culd have gone unnoticed and did they leave the patio doors locked or unlocked?? Philomena mccann (sister-in-law) has just phoned into tv prog this morning and said that allegedly the sniffer dogs have found smells of "death" on Kate mccann and she beleives the police are trying to set them up, as doctors, could this death smell have come from a patient? Philomena also said how could the mccanns be guilty when someone saw a man carrying a girl of maddy's description away from the apartment- well why haven't they investigated this then? some things just don't add up to me. I honestly don't beleive they did it (I would be shocked) but its not outside the realms of possibility- how many other murders have there been when the relatives have appeared in tears on tv and its later discovered that they did it- it happens sadly. If they did do it, they must both be complete sociopaths to be able to dispose of the body, keep up such a pretence and behave the way they are. It really breaks my heart to think of what maddy may have gone through/still be going through...

This is terrible but hunnie remember we must all keep an open mind and sadly in our society nowadays these things do happen and sadly its not unheard of! I have always been very aware of how Maddies parents dont seem to be showing the same amount of remorse for their lost little girl, I am not for 1 minute saying they had anything to do with it all but I know if this was my little girl I would of been a total wreck! I wouldnt of been as stable as they seemed! now I know they had to try and be as normal as they can for the sake of their other children but there is only so much a person can take! and the way I see it is when your children are involved its very hard to act normally! Its a horrible world now and this all just doesnt seem to add up! How did the person who took Maddie know that she was alone? How did they know that there wasnt anyone watching the children and that the babysiting service wasnt being used? and why only take Maddie and not any of the other children? Its all very odd if you ask me and yes I am a person of opinion but I am finding this hard to understand and no I really dont know what to think about it all but here are just some of my thoughts!

I know it's not nice to point fingers but I still think they were absolutely disgusting to leave their kids, so if you can do that what else are you capable of? 🤔 but no doubt in a couple of days she'll be cleared and the search will go on
