Won't settle unless held/carried - sling?
Sophie is going through a phase of not sleeping in her moses basket during the day. I have tried to let her cry and settle herself but after 30 minutes or more of popping back and forth to gently talk to her and let her know I'm still around, I tend to give up and pick her up.
She will sleep in my arms or in the BabyBjorn carrier I have whilst I potter around the house. Trouble is, I can't do everything one handed! ðĪŠ
Sophie does seem to suffer colic all day - her little legs are pounding away ðĒ
This is all a bit new to me. I checked my pregnancy diary and noted that Jasmine was not like this. She did have colic in the evenings but she slept well during the day in her moses basket and cot. ðī
Sophie will settle in her moses basket at night with no problem at all but come hell or high water, I can't get her to settle into it during the day. I know she probably has me wrapped around her little finger ð but I can't contemplate letting her cry much longer than 30 minutes when I know I can settle her by picking her up.
I am thinking about buying a sling and wonder if any UK mums could recommend a good one I could get from the shops or online?
I'm hoping this is a phase that won't last too long ðķ
Aww hun, it is so difficult isn't it. Neither of mine would settle in their cots during the day and Jake still won't. (as i write this he is happily sleeping in his buggy ð ) They both went straight down at night no problem though. I think they just associate(d) their beds with a long night-time sleep and not a nap? They would both nap fine in their swing chair/my arms/sling or buggy/pram during the day though. I just accepted that was the way they were in the end and at least they will sleep fine at night in their beds ð I'm sure Sue has a few slings for charlie hun, maybe she can recommend a good one. I think their is a link on one of her recent posts to a sling website too hun. Can't remember what the post was called though? Something like 'i want one of these?' i think. Have a look, the website looked fab! Hope sophie settles for you soon hun ð Xx
It's nice to know (again) that I'm not the only one having this problem. She won't settle in her swing for more than about 20 minutes but I haven't tried just putting her in her buggy in the house. I'll give that a shot tomorrow ð Let's face it, it may work! ð
As yours did, she does go to sleep at night and will settle into her moses basket fine then even if she's in the lounge still with us. It's like her body clock says it's bedtime and she has no problem with it ðī
As I'm not using her cot yet, maybe I should try and settle her into that during the day. Maybe as you say, the association needs to be broken from moses basket = night time sleep?
Thanks hun. It's good to know you're not alone when you're feeling somewhat frazzled!! ð
Your welcome hun, i know what it is like, sometimes just to hear you aren't the only one makes you fel so much better! It is worth trying anything hun. Sometimes a bit further down the line it is actually helpful if they are happy to nap in their buggy rather than only in their cot/moses basket. That way, at least they aren't getting overtired while you are out doing chores or going for a walk or even meeting a friend for lunch. I was always grateful mine would sleep wherever if i was out! I wouldn't worry too much, if she will sleep at night then you have obviously done something right hun :). I know it is the frustration of not getting things done in the day, but she will get there and find somewhere other than your arms she likes to nap hun, honest! ð Xx
i had one of them bouncers that had soothing vibrations and izzy used to sleep in that wrapped up in a snuggley fleece blanket nice and tight only thing was i had sit the bouncing it with my foot until she was sound asleep
Hun Sophie sounds a lot like George was ð
He wouldn't sleep any more than 30 mins at a time through the day, and he would throw himself around a lot when I left him to cry. I found sometimes that holding him made no difference. I used to take George around in his bouncer chair as it had handles on it so I would take him with me so he could watch me. It didn't always work unfortunately, he was a very clingy baby, I found putting something next to him that had my smell on, a jumper for example, helped a little too. I can't really give much more advice than that I'm afraid as it was something we had to ride out, its only the last 6 months that he's properly slept through the night (somewhat of a shock after Charlotte would sleep through after 3 months without so much as a complaint)! I think the idea of a sling is a good one ð
i can reccomend a fantstic sling for her,

We've always carried the children in slings when they were little, we still do with Pippa when she 'asks', when they were babies the only time they were on their own was at night in their cots. Slings are really easy to use, sometimes it takes a little bit to get used to getting the baby in and out, but after that its a doddle.
I think at this age babies should be in a sling and should cry when they are seperated from their mums. It sounds completly normal to me. I was always with E and also sleep with her still now.
i agree
ð
i have a fab sling from babyhawk.com it was ÂĢ40 but im still using it with hayden, i need to learn to put him on my back tho.
i would love to see a piccy of it
i might start a sling thread where we can all show off our beautiful slings ð
i hope this helps you angelsmom http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=6FfPf5rML3Y
ergos are pretty good, esp on the back. well worth the money! We just had 4m of fabric and made our own as well when she was first born.
soup said:Sounds like a great idea soup, i have been looking atsomesince you mentioned about it. There are some beautiful designs out there. I wish i had bought one when Lolly was little and thought about one earlier for Jake too. It is difficult for me to get around sometimes as Lolly still gets tired ðī when we are out for a long time and Jake is in the buggy. I can't take a double buggy everywhere as they aren't super practical and as i can't drive it would be a nightmare to get on the bus ð . I also find a buggy board awkward to push the buggy i have when attached. So was thinking about getting a sling that would be suitable into toddlerhood. ðĪ That way Jake could go in the sling while Lolly uses the buggy if need be. What do you think Soup? Is it worth it? I was looking at one called Beco Butterfly II baby carrier on a website called BigMama Slings. Have you ever heard of it? and what do you think? As you are now our resident expert on the matter ofcourse! ð lol Xx

http://www.bigmamaslings.co.uk/zen-cart/babyhawk-mei-tai-baby-carrier-p-295.html - this is a great site to learn about the different styles of sling
or let me know if your happy to buy a second hand one and i will have a look whats going ð
ha ha i just read your 1st ost properly
i see you've already come across big mama slings
mum2popsnjak said:it looks great ð i think mei tais with buckles are great - mine has long straps and although i love it i dont like it when the straps touch the ground when im outside

you will be the envy of many with the beco (me included)
as above let me know if you want me to have a hunt for whats being sold on at the moment
i didn't buy my mei tai new
i know someone who is selling a kozy mei tai in a big cat print
http://handsfreebaby.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1_3_24&products_id=90
for ÂĢ35 including recorded delivery and its never even been opened
its brand new
Thanks sooo much Soup, I am looking around at the mo. The Beco is expensive but i am hoping i may get some money for christmas/my birthday that i may be able to put towards it. I was also looking at the freehand Mei Tai, which is obviously a lot less money and tie on. Is practical to be able to just shove it in the changing bag though! Will have to wait and see what money i get i get i suppose ðĪ Thanks for the links hun ð I would be really pleased if you would let me know if you come across anything you think i may be interested in ð Xx
