Popped into town today only to discover
that DH's debit card has been cloned and used in Italy, not only cleaning out our account but causing us to go overdrawn and we don't even have an overdraft! 😠
The bank wouldn't tell me anything even though it's a joint account as I am not the main account holder 😠 DH had to phone them to find out what was going on. Apparently VISA noticed the odd behaviour on our account and held onto the money their end, so it should be back in the account tomorrow. DH's card is now cancelled.
This is the third time this has happened to us, we even changed banks to this one because of it. 😬
this happened to me too and our card was used in london,we got the money back but its so scary
Thank goodness they noticed suspicious activity and didn't pay out. I've heard of people waiting months to get their money back when such fraud happens.
I only had it happen once with an Amex card years ago. They had sent me a new card and noticed that odd spending immediately happened on it in Glasgow! They called me to say they had stopped the card and were sending me another one. Someone had managed to get hold of a nice, blank Amex card and went on a spending spree. Fortunately I didn't have to argue the charges as they had spotted it themselves.
A friend had her entire bank account cleaned out too when she used online banking. It was all very suspicious as the bank in question refunded all the money immediately she queried it 😠
thats happened to a few of the people i work with they got a phonecall from the bank asking them if they were on holiday and when they said no they bank said well withdrawals have been attampted to be made from your card in turkey and they had done what visa had done held the money and returned it back to the account.

glad to hear that they spotted it and hope the money goes in soon 😘
omfg!!!! thats awful
Thing is where the heck did they manage to clone the card? The first time this happened we changed accounts, second we changed banks and became super vidulant were ATM are concerned. We no longer internet bank or use the cards online.
Now I think once all the direct debits are paid we will withdraw the remaining amount from the account over the counter and just keep it at home. We have cash covered on our house insurance both inside and outside the home. However if someone takes it from our account we have no insurance or guarantee the bank will pay it back.
Amy is most upset about the slippers!
Oh NO!!!
😘
My mum had a credit card stolen, but the people got caught in Debenhams with it because they tried to use it.
OMG Sweety
That's awful. I'm so sorry hun. 😘 Lucky they realised before it was to late hun. I hope the money goes in, like they sais, tommorow! I can't believe how many low life's that seem to be around at the moment. My mum even had her handbad stolen from the car, which was parked 2ft away from her in a churchyard, while she tended her dad's grave. Was a while ago now, but still makes me 😠 just thinking about it! Xx
We had a garage close down for about 2 weeks near us cos they were cloning cards! I think it's re-opened now but not 100% sure but is a little stupid if it is.
Glad your getting your money back though, thank god they spotted it when they did
That really stinks hun!! I'm glad it didn't get carried away further before it was discovered... 😛 some people are really 😠 ed sometimes 😠
🙁 That is awful hun, lucky the bank noticed quickly. Its scary that it can still happen with all the extra new security features they put on cards these days. 🤔
The bank hadn't actually noticed anything and didn't have a clue what was going on. It was VISA that noticed something was up and stopped the money, but they hadn't notified the bank or us about it.
my dads was being used in france the other week
nice to see visa and credit cards are doing their jobs

Crazy that they are still allowed to run the places when they have already been done for something like this! They should take the Card Machine out of the shop at least!Richie said:That happened near us too, but the same family run it still and it was a BP franchised one 🤔 I won't use it, and I will only ever pay for my petrol woth a card at the supermarket.

With chip and pin it should be harder for this to happen, as you should never let your card leave your site, and you put it into the machine yourself, even at a restaurant.
You're more likely to suffer from this using your card on the high street than you are over the internet or with online banking.
thats awful i always get funny about using cash points - but i do most of my spending online and i know visa ask for a password through ur banking before u can spend anything - the fact of the matter is no matter what u do someone will find a way round it no matter how secure!
