9 months Maternity leave - is it enough?

im only havin two weeks off cus of college 🙁 then 4 months in college and then i dunno if i wanna go to uni in sept or take a year off xxx
Well, that's much better than 2 weeks 😀
I don't know when you have to give notice. Sorry.
But could I ask you all whether you would consider becoming a full-time stay at home mum without thinking of going back to work? The reason why I ask you this is because I know that in Germany the majority of nurseries don't take children before the age of 3!!! This changes slowly now but obviously, if women decide to become pregnant they have to make the choice of staying at home for at least 3 years or rely on relatives/private childminders. Tbh, I wouldn't want to stay at home for 3 years because firstly we need the money (life in Britain doesn't get cheaper 😢 ) and secondly I was brought up with the attitude that you should work, regardless. Maybe our culture doesn't allow us to be "natural born mums". Anyway, just a thought. What do you think?
Honestly if we could have afforded it I would have stayed at home until both were in full-time school and got a part-time job then.

thank u 😀
i took the 6months on maternity allowence(i didnt earn enough to qualify for smp) i went back to work for 6months and hated it, we were falling behind on rent and other bills so seeked advice from cab.
they told me i would be about £70 better off not working so i left work. (there was alot of stuff goin on at work too and half expected being finshed soon)
weve had to do alot of rearranging and we were managing, then in march i was just looking for a job when i fell pregnant.
if i had been working this time wold have loved being off for 9months, but i think you should have the option to be off for a year with some pay.

i know we will manange it just weird not earnin my own money if that makes sense
i know hun! i was always adament i wasnt going to 'claim benefits' but i dont - i only recieve what im entitled to!
not against anybody claiming so im gona claim wot im entitled to as well the just seewhen baby bit older ill find someat then but not rushin for mo 🙂
thats exactly what im doing! theres no rush - and id rather see ethan achieve the mielstones than putting him in nursery and them tellin me hed done this and that for the first time!!
if we struggle theres always a little PT job or cleaning or something - but for now,im happy spending the time with him - i dont think il work til hes in skool tbh! and if i fall preg again before ethan goes to skool - il be having a very long break from work hahaha!!!
ive missed all of my 3 kids little milestones and reliein on family to watch em is a nightmare
I absolutely agree! It is so weird not to earn anything and even though we all know that being a mum and housewife can be a very hard job it seems to be nothing in comparison what our hubbies are doing! I'm sure there is something wrong with this world 😬 I don't feel equal to him because I don't earn anything. Is that right? It's weird 😲 ! I think the whole emancipation thing simply went too far 😎
Yes, you'll never get the time back to see your kids grow....It's not fair!
Hi there, I was really fortunate and my company paid me maternity pay at 90% of salary for 6 months. I then took an extra 6 months unpaid to leave my options open even though I had already decided not to go back to work. I think if you can afford it it's much better to stay home with you child and not go back to work full time. It's surprising how easily we adapted going from 2 incomes to 1 income. Obviously we can't save like we did before but you do find ways to economise.
