If you both have broadband, you can install Skype ( www.skype.com ) and call each other via the internet for free using either a pc microphone or a Skype compatible USB phone which you can get for less than £20 these days!

Skype is really good. It works well. My mum has a wi-fi skype phone and takes it travelling with her, so she can use a wireless internet connection to phone home.

Calls between 2 skype phones are free, or you can phone from a skype phone to a normal phone or mobile(cell) phone and it costs about 1p per minute.
