Dear mummy’s around the world !
As I hope you are all aware of, there is a crisis of global warming affecting the earth as we speak. The UN’s Intergovernmental panel on climate change has recently released a new report on the earth’s condition, and it is not good reading.
Carbon dioxide and other gases contribute to warming the surface of the planet, by trapping the solar heat in the atmosphere. This is supposed to be a good thing, but by burning fossil fuels (gas, oil, coal) and by clearing the forests, we have increased the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, and as a result the global average temperature is rising.
We are already today seeing the changes, with melting glaciers, numbers of severe storms increasing, more extreme weather, and animals and plants forced from their habitat. The changes ahead are frightening, if we don’t act now, we won’t be able to deliver a healthy world to our children and grandchildren.
Therefore I ask you; how much is your children worth to you? Are you willing to make a few extra changes in your life, to reduce the outlet of carbon dioxide? Please, I beg of you, for your children’s sake.
Here are a few tips and how to reduce your emissions;
- change all of your regular incandescent light bulb with a compact fluorescent light bulb
- Turn your thermostat down 2° in winter and up 2° in summer
- Turn of and unplug all of your electrical devices when they are not in use (don’t let the tv stand on standby)
- Eat less meat
- Eat more organic food
- Buy more local products
- Use less hot water – for instance install a low flow shower head
- Only run your dishwasher when there’s a full load and use the energy-saving setting
- RECYCLE !!!
- Buy more used products, and also sell/give away your old stuff instead of throwing them out
- Plant a tree
- Put pressure on your local politicians to act – give your vote to the most environmental politician
- Walk or bike on shorter distances (it reduces emissions, and is good for your health)
- Use public transportation instead of a car whenever possible
- Instead of going on holiday (by plane) once a year, save up, and go on a longer holiday the following year
- Check your tires weekly to make sure they’re properly inflated (properly inflated tires makes the car use less fuel)
- Check the possibility to drive to work/school with colleagues / classmates
- Inspire others to do the same
Thank you for taking time to read this. Thank you for taking time to think about the future. I hope this will help you change your habits and the world for the better.
Our village was on the Anglia Tonight Climate Change programme the other other night and my childrens school has been covering a lot of this.
As a result of the tv company being in the school, the school has now set up a green team to look at how they could be more efficient with energy saving.
We try to be quite efficient at home but am sure there is more that we could do.

Hogwash!
The science behind the drama says otherwise! 😉
Kristiane said:I think we do everything we personally can, we recycle what we can and use energy savers and compost bins etc but I do disagree very much when the guilt trip is put into us as I've highlighted in bold.

Sorry I just feel like our kids should not be used as ammunition.
I would also like to know, (sorry if I'm being thick here) why eating less meat will help the environment??
