samuel is soooo clingy

Samuel has just turned one last week and he is being soooooo clingy!!!!!
He will still go with my dh or my parents but as soon as he sees me he screams and cries untill i pick him up 🤔 He has never wanted to be held for long and enjoys playing on the floor but latley he is in my arms nearly all day??I cant even go to the loo with out him having a scream!!When he does this i pick him up and i give him cuddles which helps most of the time but i am being told that by doing this im making it worse any sugestions? 🤔

I would talk to him without picking him up, reassure him that you are there. By picking him up you are giving him EXACTLY what he wants. You will have to be strong Jo as it hurts to hear him scream but it will soon pass 😘

Thanks Alex,I have tried this before but i gave in pretty quickly 😊 lol
It does upset me to see him get so upset. I just want him to feel secure, safe etc with out the screaming and carrying him around all day.I think what makes it hard for me is knowing that he was such an independant little guy up untill recently. He has always been so confident and content while i was in another room etc.I cant remember at what age Vic started getting seperation anxiety but i know it didnt last long.

hi

my sons nearly 2 and does the same thing...ive started to ignore him and talk to him instead, let him know im not going anywhere..... alothough i dont remember the last time i went for a wee or had a shower in peace!

I'd pick him up, I don't believe that babies should be punished, baby needs a cuddle, baby gets one.

Sophie is quite happy playing on her own for a while but lately she has started looking for me when I'm out of sight for a period of time (cooking in the kitchen, doing a few work emails, etc) and holds her arms up to be picked up and can cry if I'm gone a bit too long (in her mind) 🙂

I have to admit I do pick her up a lot of the time as I love holding her too. However, sometimes just sitting down next to her and smiling and playing with her is all she needs. If the tears have started though, it's too late and only cuddles will do.

I'm with Samuel on this one. I don't believe you can spoil a child that wants a bit of reassurance.

I have to say though that once she's in her cot and we've been through our little nighttime routine, I do not pick her up when she's shouting but do check her and reassure her I am still around. If she cries though, again I pick her up for a cuddle in her room then straight back into her cot. She's not one to cry for no reason and as she's teething too right now (top two front ones just broken through) I'm generous with the cuddles 😍 I know the difference between her 'wailing' as she doesn't want to be in her cot but is tired and her 'something is bothering me mummy' cry 😇

You definitely need to be able to go to the loo alone though. Perhaps leave the door open and chat whilst you're going (oh dear, TMI) so he knows you are still around?

Thanks guys.He has been ok the last few days,i really think it had/has to do with his teeth as its ok for a few days then of we go again!!!
He started doing this when i put him down at night but i persisted and all is good(phewwww).
