1st time, 1 million questions!

I am 28 and just found out last week that I am about 4 or 5 weeks pregnant mush to my surprise and delight! I am terrified that something could and might go wrong and so don't want to tell friends and family until nearer the 12th week or so. However this means that I have no one to bombard with my many questions! So I'm hoping you guys can help me with some answers! The boyfriend is only just coming around to accepting that we got pregnant so easily and is only starting to get excited now, so I'm trying my hardest to stay calm and collected for both our sakes!

My 'booking in' appointment with the MW isn't until end of April, and I'm doing my best not to read any scare stories or anything in the meantime! But was wondering what books you guys might reccomend? I also used to do a lot of exercise and was very fit (guess I'll have to cancel the 10k run in May!) so am hoping you might have some advice on how to stay in shape to counteract all the chocolate and vanilla slices I am consuming? I am totally EXHAUSTED all the time at the moment, so would really like to shake this lethargy off somehow!

And wind.... ladies - I am drinking buckets of peppermint tea and ginger tea to aid digestion. But the wind keeps me awake at night! Any advice, I'm scared to take any medication.

I have a million more questions, and am assuming I'm not the only only one?!

B

Hey congratulations. 😀 I am in my first pregnancy too and I completley understand.
I had to tell people at work before 12 weeks though because I was a) feeling sick and b) being about as useful as a chocolate teapot and c) prone to passing out! 😊 (I have very low blood pressure - which is ace for the baba but not great for the woozy head)
Anyway, your questions:
The book I have loved is The Rough Guide to Pregnancy - link to Amazon here. It is funny and honest and not scary.
I also got the Idiots Guide to Pregnancy that has more medical stuff in it but I use that more as a reference book than something to read cover to cover.
Exercise, sorry I am a lazy bugger and tend not to anyway. But I know you need to put up with the tiredness in the fist 15 weeks as you body is doing A LOT OF WORK. It is making a person and that wares you out. However, swimming and light expercise is good. I would not recommend running though - not sure if I am right but the constant pounding that your body takes when you run is not great for a little bean trying to latch on.
Wind - I use Rennie Spearmint as it is pregnancy safe (but do read the lable I am not a pharmacist) and I get my husband to rub my back. (This works for wind at both ends!) It is good practice for him for when the baba gets here. 👶
As for excitment, yes that is hard. To remain calm but enjoy it at the same time. 😀 I wish you luck and a nice calm pregnancy and you can bombard us with any questions you like. In my experience everyone on here is lovely and more than willing to help with any questions, even icky ones!

If you are a very active person you can carry on with exercise, unless you have a high risk pregnancy. Basically as long as you don't strain yourself with heavy weights; also remembering that your ligaments soften during pregnancy so you could pull things more easily. I still go to the gym when I feel like it, I just avoid a handful of the machines, but I still do the exercise bike, rowing machine, chest press, shoulder press, some light free weights, alot of floor work for my legs and back, etc.

You've come to the right place if you have questions, we're all very nice here. Congrats.

Thanks guys. I was feeling really depressed yesterday and weepy, so took myself out for a walk t shake it off. Managed about 3K just walking and was wrecked afterwards! Have ordered an exercise DVD from Amazon, as well as The Rough Guide! So I'll keep you posted on those.

I am turning in to my worst nightmare the past few days and am officially a fussy eater! I used to boast about the weird and wonderful things I ate, but this week all I can stomach are cornflakes and home made soup! Oh, and chocolate cookies natch! At best I am hoping that eating little but more often will help with the burping! Coz it's still really bad.

I have to admit that there isn't much to enjoy at the moment, and I feel pretty crap. I really miss my energy! 😴 I used to take Berocca regularly, which was great for boosting my energy and vitimins but have cut back as I'm worried about taking too many vitamins for the sprog. But is it only too much Vitamin A tht is harmful? I'm taking Folic Acid supplements, the brand of cornflakes I eat have foliuc acid too, and there is more in Berocca - can you have too much?

Hiya, and congratulations on your pregnancy! 👶

I have been taking pregnancy supplements from asda that have a range of different vitamins/minerals that are good for both mum and baby- there's no vit A in them but there's...

Vits D,E,C,B1,B2,B6,B12,K
Niacin
Folic acid,
Iron,
Magnesium,
Zinc,
Iodine,
Selenium,
Copper,
Beta Carotene.

You can take it throughout the pregnancy. They are permanently 2 packs for £4 (which is 60 1-a-day tablets), don't think you need to take anything else with it as it's specially formulated to give you and the baby all you need. You can still eat corn flakes tho!!
