How many parents are petty minded...

Whats going to be their attitude when they see disabled people in the street? Makes me sick quite honestly, what century are they living in????
A disabled BBC presenter has become the victim of a campaign after parents suggested that she may scare children.
Worried parents claim that Cerrie Burnell - who was born with one arm - should not front CBeebies shows.
The decision to hire her has prompted a series of complaints to the BBC from angry parents. One father said that he wants to ban his daughter from watching the channel because he fears she may 'suffer nightmares'.
Speaking on the CBeebies message boards, another parent wrote, "Is it just me, or does anyone else think the new woman presenter on CBeebies may scare the kids because of her disability?"
Burnell and co-presenter Alex Winters stepped in as hosts of The Bedtime Hour and Discover and Do last month.
Bah *packs away soap box and walks off*
thing is it doesnt seem to bother the kids. its the parents who have the problem with it. my 2 havent taken any notice. i agree its absolutely disgusting
shes still got one arm? what stupid people!
I fully support the BBC for this, as this girl had chosen to do presenting in some capacity for kids TV ( I am guessing ) if everyone had the opinion of the morons that complained, she'd never get a job anywhere!
I seriously wonder what kind of world we bring our kids into with people with no wider range of vision than the hand in front of their faces! Wake up and smell the coffee, the world is not perfect, and the sooner kids are introduced to that, the better.
And for the presenters own personal feelings, I bet these parents think, what does it matter, she's probably used to all the negative comments. Maybe, but that doesn't excuse small mindedness as she does have feelings and I bet comments like that do hurt.
Some people need to be shaken HARD and woken up.
Bah *Packs soap box up again, and wanders off to the bar*
the fact that she got one arm doesn't really bother me but the fact the new 2 presenters are s 😠t does!! they are wooden and boring and i want chris and pui back!!
I also saw somewhere someone had written
"why does she feel the need to have the sleeve rolled up on the shorter arm"
Well how would they like extra material being in the way of the use she still has, i think it's a good idea that she presents as children can see different people from different walks of life and learn not to be judgemental like these parents seem to be.
I think it is dusgusting but sadly there are many narrow minded people out there who feel the need to 'hide' their child away from disabilities and in some cases deny they even exsist. People still see children/adults with additional support needs as someone to stare at or feel sorry for, or to hide away from them because they percieve them as an alien being! It makes me mad.
And the BBC must have a HUGE number of complaints for it to be in the news, it wouldn't happen because of just one or two people.
Wow, I'm shocked that such intolerance displayed by these parents 😲 ... My father was the victim of a drunk driver in a car accident when I was 15, he lost his left arm at the scene and could not be repaired so he has lived with this for over 20 years now and has seen lots of stares and wide eyes... parent's need to teach their children about accepting and tolerating people that are different or have special needs or disabilities, we all walk this earth equally, and should be allowed to do what ever we are capable of. I think it's a great thing that this person was hired by cbeebies, hopefully in an effort to help spread tolerance and educate children more on these things...
Geezzzz... petty isn't even the word for these ignorant parents!
From nursery to the end of my GCSE's I went to school with a lad who was born with half an arm. We found it interesting and he had a prosthetic arm with a 'crocodile' action. We all used to queue up to stick our fingers in lol! We never found it disgusting and as far as I know we never had nightmares about it!
When we all moved to secondary, obviously there were new people from different schools who realised he had half an arm. I remember someone mentioning it to me and I found it strange they were bothered by it. The person asked if I thought it was gross and I just said 'no' because we'd never known him any different, everyone got used to it.
I find it incredible in this day and age that people still have such an adversity to a disability!
So, they reckon the kids are scared of a one armed women, but not all the reall freaky stuff you see in the cartoons...
I guess though, we need to ban other scary things too, black people are scary so they are banned, fat people are obviously scary so they are banned, thin people look like aliens so we ban them, everyone from the middle east is a terrorist so we have to ban those, ginger people aren't socially acceptable so they can't work either, old people would always be peadophiles so we can't really have those either, blondes are slags so we can't have them, all gay people have hiv so thats a no no. We can't have middle or upper class presenters as that shows normal people aren't worthy, we can have lower class people they would be a bad influence of course, then no one can have any sexual relations what so ever as we don't want perverts. But apart from that, its all good.
To be fair these are probably the same people protesting that Diedre from Coronation street be released from prison, possibly Jeremy Kyle guests too or those people you see in weekly trash magazines that enjoy sex with their father.
we dont watch cbeebies so havent seen this lady but i dont see the big deal. good on her for living her dream! but if these parents think disabilitys so bad why havent they complained about her off balamory?
I'm going to be perfectly honest here and say that when she comes on the telly I can feel my stomach churn, I have always been queesy when it comes to 'disability' like that so it's not just her before anyone says anything. 😜
George still watches Cbeebies and I'd never dream of stopping him from watching. One of his favourite programmes is Something Special which features children even more disabled but no one to my knowledge complains about that! The people that complained ot the BBC are narrow minded petty N I M B Ys who really need to open their eyes and see that by giving this girl a high profile role on their flagship tot channel, the BBC are trying to show that disability needn't be a barrier to you doing what you want.
We are surely trying to teach our children acceptance of others who are different. I'm sure in the past presenters from multi-cultural back grounds were frowned upon, and then some homophobics would have had issues with gay presenters. Now it's the girl who looks abit different! What does she do any differently from the other presenters? It's victimisation! How would these complaining parents feel if they had a disabled or ill child; and then everyone stared in the street or frowned upon them. It's a 😠joke, there's nothing wrong with the girl or the job she's doing, I really don't understand why there is even an issue here 😛
What next? Will they be sacking Penny from Balamory for being in a wheel chair? Or the guy from Me Too for being blind?
It's disgusting, and these will be the parents who raise bullying a**e hole children!
I am horrified and saddend that this is such a huge unusual thing - as far as I can see the only people who have a problem with this are the parents who complained!
Elementary said:Exactly! The BBC have sprung to her defense which is a fantastic move on their part, nice to see equal opportunities displayed in such a high profile environment.

I agree that if she asked me why the lady only had one arm i would be more than happy for her to know why and would feel happy and contect that she realised all are not as fortunate as we are. People do have disabilities and she should be encouraged to both realise and understand this. 😠😠ðŸ˜
