Haven't been on in a few days becasue...
We just rescued a new dog. Long story short someone had seen her and told us and the onwers said TAKE HER!
Bless her heart, she was on 8 ft of chain and outside in the freezing cold (mind you it was 14 Degree the other night!) She is a Boxer (not sure if she is full blooded, but she looks it, will find out more once we see the vet) When I ask the owner what type of food she was on so I could wean her over to our kind...she said nothing! 😲 'We just feed her scraps that we have.' She has had a litter of puppies and they dont know when or how old she is.
She is a sweetheart, really grateful too. The only thing is our Boxer Champ and her aren't getting along just yet. We have had them on leash with each other and they walk well together, but after a few she will snap at him and that gets things esclated 😲
Anyone have any advise/experiance on how to introduce them better.
I really want things to workout for her.
Ok, now I am done 😊 I will post a pic of her in the photo thread!
Oh my god that is terrible hun. Have the old owners been reported to the relevant body for animal cruelty? they should be. It makes me so 😠 to hear stories like this. Why on earth have a dog if that is how you are going to treat them? I mean to not even feed her properly and leave her outside in freezing temperatures is just disgusting. Someone should do the same to them and see how they like it! Thank god there are people like you around Cassie who can pick up the pieces! She is adorable by the way, just seen your photo. 😍
As for the introducing thing. I am not too up on it, but i am pretty sure it is quite common at first for them too jostle a bit to work out who is going to be 'top dog' i think it normally settles down once they have got an order in place? However i would speak to a vet or behaviour specialist if you are getting worried about it hun.
I'm surprised with them being male and female there's much of an issue.... she may have some pit bull in her and they do tend to be dog aggressive (especially females I think and I'm not knocking pits, I love them!!)....
Feel free to pm me any question you have because I do have some experience in introducing animals (I used to foster rescues)... I'm curious to know how you guys have gone about it so far and to what extent there is aggression (and who initiates it)? I'm sure you know this but don't ever try to break up a fight yourself if one ensues... you may want to have a breaking stick around (I'll explain more in a pm if you're interested in what that is, though I will say it has nothing to do with hitting an animal with!! no cruelty involved!!)
Your an angel for rescuing her Cassie! 😇 😘
We have working dogs, so we have to introduce new dogs quite often and they have no choice but to get on. I don't see a problem with feeding scraps, all our animals are fed that way, there is no way I would be giving them ash filled petfood. It's kind of like when a three year old because jealous of his one year old sister as she is starting to talk and walk and mummy and daddy are amazed and happy about it, you have to keep giving attention to who came first.
When we introduce a new dog they nearly always fight, we let them get on with it unless they are getting too rough and hurting each other, but as our dogs are workers, even in that situation they will try to get away from the fight, if they can't away we have found food has always distracted them enough.
Don't let the new dog sleep or lounge in your dogs area and always feed the new dog second so your dog knows he hasn't been pushed down the ranks of the pack.
What kind of working dogs do you guys have Samuel?

Wow, you have your hands full with dogs! At one point (not so long ago) I was living with 4 dogs and 5 cats, in a 3 bedroom house (3 are my exboyfriend/bff/fwb's ((LOL)) and 1 mine, now me and Aaralyn and the one dog and 2 cats), I'd have more if I had the room and the funds! Sounds like you guys live on a farm and if you do I envy you!
woopsie... sorry for doing a little thread hijacking there Cassie 😊

Lexi and Champ are doing good outside together we just left thier leads on them and let them go after they were calm on leash. They do well playing with each other outside. But inside is a different story, still working on that, but things are getting better.
They were so cute outside today playing in the snow!
Thanks everyone, I am so glad she is doing well and out of her bad situation. 😀
