Aaralyn has taught me all about Kwanzaa
This week at school her class has been learning about Kwanzaa and with that I have been learning all about Kwanzaa. I never realized that it was not a religious holiday but more a holiday of Principles of Life... very interesting and I'm so glad that Aaralyn has been introduced more to this due to her multi-racial (including African) back ground.
If anyone would like to learn more about Kwanzaa, here's a link I found of a report about it done by a school age child and I thought was very well written and informative. http://teacherlink.ed.usu.edu/TLRESOURCES/units/Byrnes-celebrations/kwanzaa2.html
and here are some pics of Aaralyn's Mkeka (if you read the report you'll understand what that is and what the symbols are and mean on her mkeka. She made the first one at school and the second one she made at home so that I would have one too 😍
and I gotta sneak this one in of her gingerbread girl that she made at school
She's really creative 🙂
great work Aaralyn, keep it up 😀
thats really good that they are teaching the kids things like that! 😀
That really is informative, and very well written. I have to confess i dodn't know anything about it, much to my embarassment, it is great Aaralyn is getting taught something like this, as far as i am aware it tends to just be religious ceremonies the children are taught about in thos country? I may be wrong on that though. Great art eork too Aaralyn, well done! Xx
(no smilies on this post again? So weird, sometimes there, sometimes not?)
That was a good report about Kwanzaa wasn't it! It sounds like a great celebration and I think I may start celebrating it with Aaralyn each year!
In the public schools here they don't get too into religion because of the varied religious back grounds, it is generally a rule that religion be taught in the home, church or place of worship. They do touch on holiday traditions for different cultures though... she's also learned about Hannukuh and other ways people celebrate holidays around the world.... I think it's great!
aw thats so cute, Gemma learned all about Divali at school, its an indian festival of light and they did a Divali play.
She was also part of the Indian Dance group and she was really good at it. I think its great that they learn other cultures apart from their own
