Really put off by a neighbor!!
Ok, I need some opinions here.... honest ones....
Most of you know that I have 2 cats and a dog, now that we're in our own place and don't have the combination of Mike's pets too. Most of you also know that I'm only supposed to have 2 pets... so far no probs with that....
Well, Aaralyn's kitty Destiny is not converting back to being an inside cat as easily as I'd hoped she would. I'm thinking it's not really a problem because I see several of my neighbors have cats and I see them roam freely around the community so I'm just thinking that the "leash" rule is overlooked with cats so I've allowed Destiny to go outside and she always stays close by and comes right back to me when I call her in. When I get home from work first thing I always do is take Cory for a walk (the dog), Aaralyn always comes with and Destiny always follows behind us, very cute right!? that's what other neighbor's have thought when the see a fluffy black cat going on a walk with a 5 year old kid, a dog and an adult as they have commented so.
Here's the problem, the day before yesterday were were doing our walk and Destiny had trailed a little behind us so I called her to us. When I did this one of the neighbor's was just getting out of her car and she looks over at Destiny running up to me and then immediately reaches in her purse for her cell phone. Ok, I'm walking up to my apartment, she's continuously staring at us (me, specifically) while she's standing in front of her building on the phone. I knew immediately that she was reporting that I had my cat off leash to the rental office, I just knew it.
I get home yesterday to find a note on my door from the management saying that over the last several weeks there has been a problem with viscious stray cats running about the property and randomly coming up to people and trying to attack them and their pets (the neighbor has 2 little dogs, and one is quite a little viscious chiuahaha if I do say!).... so, she must have called and told them that my cat, Destiny is terrorizing her and her little dogs 😲 Ok, this is Destiny, you guys know her, she's the sweetest, coolest, bestest kid cat ever, she's never shown aggression to any one or any other animal.... she loves ya whether you're a dog, cat, human, whatever!
So the letter goes on to state that they would be having a trapping company come out and put "safe traps" out to get the strays and they would be taken to animal control, this was to take place on Thursday... how ironic the day after this girl made her phone call and was watching to see what apartment we went in.
I understand a rule is a rule and I broke it and now I need to keep my cat inside but did she really have to call and make up a lie about a viscious cat attacking people and pets???? The letter was not directed at me personally but written in general to all cat owners.... funny, didn't see it on any other cat owner's doors in my building 😉
I'm going to talk with one of the other neighbor's whose cat I see out frequently and see if she got one and also warn her about the tattle tale neighbor..... or should I just let it go? This is where I need advise..... I'm really inclined to say something to this girl and ask her why she felt the need to do that.... should I call the rental office and let them know I know it was my cat they were talking about and assure them that I'll keep her in but that she is in no way a viscious animal and she is spayed and up to date on all her shots? or like I said, do you guys think I should just let it go and obey the rule from now on??? Am I out of line being angry with this neighbor? I've actually nicely said hello to her before in crossing when we've been out walking our dogs... her littl chiuahaha always barrs her teeth and raises her hackles at Cory, my dog LOL... but it's never bothered me until now!
i wouldn't want to follow the rules if no-one else did
speak to your neighbour see if she got one too
I don't see why only you should follow the rules Tammy.
Have a chat with the nice neighbour with the cat and see if she got a letter to. If not, I'd be inclined to speak to the rental office and ask why this was directed solely at you and not other cat owners who let their cats out without a leash. I would also mention to the rental owners that you are having an issue with a lady with two dogs who always bare their teeth and growl at you and your child (wouldn't mention the chiuhaha (how do you spell that?).
Sounds like you have a right busy-body there. I'm afraid I wouldn't let it go. I would be inclined to watch for anything I saw that she did wrong and report her and I'd also go have a word with her directly if it turns out you had the only letter about the cats! I would also point out to her if her dogs growl at you and your child one more time, you will be obliged to report that they could be vicious! Let her stew on that! 😜
We had a problem here with a neighbours dog. They let this blo 😠dy thing out at 7am every day to bark in their garden for about 45 minutes before they took it for a walk barking all the way. Everyone was sick of it and moaning to one another and I was the ONLY person around here who went and had a word with them saying it was unacceptable. Unfortunately they are older and look at this mongrel as some kind of dysfunctional child and said it was just a puppy and got excited (it's 4 years old!). They said children walking home from school were much noisier around here but I pointed out that didn't happen every day at 7am! I ended up reporting them to the dog warden and the noise stopped for about 6 months but unfortunately has started up again lately. Seems this time someone else has taken up arms as a lot of us have had a letter that was sent to this neighbour saying the barking was unacceptable and urging people to report them also if they agreed. They have since bought the dog a collar that puffs smoke at it to stop it when it starts barking but I think the smoke chamber has run out recently 😠Personally I'd like to just shoot it 😉 but I think I'd be in trouble for that 😇
Good luck hun 😘
I think it is totally unfair that other cats roam freely around the neighbourhood and you seem to be the only cat owner to be targeted in this way hun. I don't think anyone would follow the rules in these circumstances? I also think you have a busy body neighbour there. Maybe she feels threatened that you are new but have settled in and made friends there? However i have to say i would probably let this one go for peace sake? The last thing i would want is to cause a row that went on for years over a cat? You could be forever telling tails on each other? And what happens if she finds out you have 2 cats tucked away? You would hate to have to get rid of one, but if she told on you, you may have too? Same foe telling the authority about her dogs, what if they check on you? I would just try and stay out of her way from now on. Maybe try and find out if other people have had a problem with her though? As for the viscious cat thing. Although it is obvious it was your neighbour who told on you, maybe they made that bit up themselves to give you a 'suitable reason' to leave a note for you? Sorry i couldn't be more help hun, you obviously have yourself a very petty neighbour! Xx
Thanks for the replies girls!! I'm thinking I'm going to try to leash train Destiny LOL (I'm serious though!!) and every time I see this girl out walking her little yappy ankle biters, I mean her cute little dogs 😕 , I'm going to take Destiny and Cory out on their leashes and walk right by her and her dogs 😀 and smile sweetly....
You must be very controlled, I'd have already been round to the other neighbours with cats to spill the beans of the tattle tale; and to the woman in question I'd have reported her dog as being viscious to see how she liked it because yes I am that petty!! and yes I'd want revenge ðŸ˜
id put cat shit through her letterobx if it were me!
I have lived in a few apartments and their is always a rule with rental agencies about pets. But some of the caretakers and landlords bend the rules for some tenents. It all depends how behaved and clean your pets are.
It was totally not fair what the snooty lady did. Unfortunatly, when it comes to managments, they get the last say over the rules. It doesn't sound like you have to get rid of your pets. Just keep doing what your doing. If the managments are relying on cat traps and not full out investigating, then I think the managment just wants to shut that lady up. Perhaps she complains about every little thing. Cat traps don't mean your kitty will get caught if she stays close to you guys.
hapydazy said:My sister had two chinchilla cats and they were both leash trained 😇 She used to have a boat on the river so they took the cats with them at weekends and when they went away on it. Quite funny to see my brother-in-law walking two very fluffy cats on the riverbank on leads! 😊

I think you're very good to ignore this tittle-tattle. I'm afraid the Scorpio in me is not as well behaved
Be a better person rise above the tittle tattle. And hey rules are there to be broken 😇 . No wonder my mum is looking forward to Cassie being older.
wow, i soooo don't want to get on the wrong side of some of you lot! hahaha Xx
Ok sorry i'm late with this hun, but I'd ask your other neighbour if she did get a note, and maybe just warn her that they are setting traps just in case hers gets caught.
Sounds like this woman hasn't much better to do and what a sad life she may lead!!
