Have i offended anyone with my posts/threads?

I wont reply to this as i seem to be saying the wrong things.
but feel free to tell me where i have been going wrong on all my threads and posts... this isnt meant to be sarcastic or rude, its a general question.

both my threads about "immigration" and "taking pot while pregnant" have been closed.

and i'm unsure of the reason. if someone could enlighten me i'd be greatful. as the "immigration" one was actually quite interesting, and alot of people spent time typing long replies to it, with valid points and now it has been closed?

I can only speak for myself and with that I'll say this....

You kinda came onto this site full speed ahead with controversial posts and some of your responses seemed to have quite a bit of sarcasm in them... intended or not 🤔

We don't have issues at all with controversial subjects, in fact it is encouraged, if it can remain a peaceful debate with out lots of sarcasm....

I think some people, including myself, may have been put off a bit by you calling this a boring site after only being on her for a day or 2. I don't think we are boring and I'm pretty sure most of our members don't think we're boring.

We may shy away from certain subjects because this tends to be a very peaceful site and controversial subjects can invoke all sorts of negative responses if people aren't careful in choosing how they post their responses.... however I still encourage people to be free with their opinions.... we do have the occasional "controversial" topic and so far it has always remained civil.

I think I may have very differing opinions on alot of things in life than what other members may have on here and I'm certainly not afraid to bring up a topic that might put myself in the hot seat (I've done it before and I will do it again!) but I've also been able to respond to things that I may not agree with in a "professional" manner 🙂 and so far we all get along pretty good here, with members of all sorts of varying personalities 😀

I've been away during the last few days so am coming late into this whole situation.

We strive to keep JustParents a friendly and caring community, as there are some parenting forums out there which descend into bitching and cliques far too often, and I don't think that's beneficial to a community or to a website which tries to offer support and friendship to all.

This has naturally made our members quite a close group, although I believe and hope that we will always be more than welcoming to new members whatever their opinions and background!

I think the fact that you joined and then very quickly started two quite controversial (although very interesting) debates before anyone got to know you at all perhaps rubbed a few members up the wrong way. As an online community we get our fair share of troublemakers, spammers and members making out they are someone they are not - and this sometimes adds to people's wariness to 'interesting' new members.. something I wish wasn't the case but unfortunately will always be so on a public discussion forum.

I thought both your threads were valuable and worthy of debate, however in both instances there seemed to be the beginnings of a few personal attacks (from various sides) and this is what prompted both topics to be closed.

For the record, I don't feel it was appropriate for Lucy to dismissively comment on both threads (using 'shouting' caps) and not to add anything to the discussion, but I also feel that a few of your responses came over as a little goading on for reactions. 'Sweetie' is often taken as a bit patronising online, but of course it's difficult to read into people's emotions when typed online.

I've reopened the thread about immigration as I don't feel that it is in danger of descending into a argument if people can post and debate in an adult manner, and refrain from posting if they feel they cannot without attacking others views.

The purpose of a debate is to present and discuss differing opinions in a civil manner.

This is for all members - whilst you can strongly disagree with another's opinion we ask that you respect it!

I am afraid to say that you may have made a few people a bit wary for now Wendy, but if you are genuine and not out to make trouble, then you are of course welcome to stay - just let us know a little more about yourself before stirring any more hornet's nests up!

I have to say that I did not take offence - they were genuinely interesting questions, but then I like a good intelligent debate, but have witnessed lots degenerating into personal slanging matches. It was more likely that this was the reason for closing the threads if the threads were heading that way. 😎

i posted on the immigration one but chose not to on the pot one as i couldn't be bothered with it (it is a real no-brainer really)

i didn't even notice that they had been locked tbh

I only read the immigrations thread and found it to be quite interesting. I would have commented there but for the fact that I live in the US and so my views on immigration don't really apply to the UK.

I also didn't take offence as you could tell by my responses in the threads. I also like a good debate. I do agree with hapydazy though in that calling the site boring after a day or so wasn't the wisest thing to do and may have upset one or two people? I'm sure now everything has been sorted out though you will get on here fine! Xx

I'm sorry i thought it was boring here after being here 1 day, but i shouldnt have compared it to the american one i was used to, i think there are more people on that one that is probably why it was more entertaining to me at the time. it is cool here and im sorry...i didnt call anyone boring though.

And my posts were different, not strange, afterall they are kind of day to day topics.
i just wanted to hear views on them.
the immigration one is still going strong, and have had lots of great posts with varied views. very interesting.

maybe the pot one wasnt appropriate, but it does go on, i just wondered what people thought on the subject.

I think us being a bit of a smaller member based forum, but not really because we have over 2700 members now 😀 there is a lot less drama and catiness then I've seen when I've perused other forums...

😏 as far as boring, you shoulda seen the threads about a year or so ago (when I was still a newbie 😀 ) we had an impromptu, drunken (some of us) game of truth or dare that turned into a naked (avatar) protest to get something we we were requesting of Rob.... we did finally get our way, even if it did take a little while eh Rob 😜

So, any body ever up for a good ol' fashion game of truth or dare again, bring it 😀 .... that would have to be done in another forum though 😉

i would say it is not a boring site sometimes quiet but were al i suppose busy with one thing and another it is the best site ive come across (bitching and back stabbing) 😜

Your posts were a little controversial to say the least maybe we dont expect new members to be posting such posts when they are finding their feet.

once you get to know all of us then you will realise we are just a bunch of parents chatting and sharing our experiences on life.

I for one was put out by your reply to me and for a simple mistake which was pointed out by a member of Admin and a mod, i too as a realtively new person am finding my feet. Especially as you do not know me or anything about me. As i know nothing of you.

I felt the need to speak up for myself and i shall continue to do so.

Perhaps we should have a debate forum so that Wendylou can post in an appropriate place which is reserved for such topics.

Thats all ill say on the subject.
