Funding for college courses
Not the academic year starting this september but next september I am thinking about doing a training course (NVQ level 3)and was wondering do any of you know if I would be eligable for funding for atleast part of the fees. I have been a full time mum for just over 5 years now and my husband is self employed and not on a very high income. Do they base it on what your income is? Or are there just certain courses you get funding for and others you don't?
Any help would be great thanks
It does depend on the course and youe partners income, if you earn less that £25000 a year and the couse has concesions (sp) then you would get the full fee paid 🙂
Oh and you woould aslo ger chidcare and can apply for student support I got about £70 a months so paid for my bus fares and things, and they paid 80% of my childcare fees HTH
Oh that's cool thanks. We are on less than 25k a year, alot less! I might look into it then
cant help with the funding Scotland is so different to England
But If it works out then go for it 😀
if your claiming working tax credit you can get the course for free, but nvqs are work based so you need to be in that sort of job to do one
I didn't realise NVQ's were work based, unless something changed in the last 10 years. I did one in evening classes whilst doing my degree as I had had a change of heart in the direction I was going. I wasn't working in computers but got an NVQ level 2.
As others have said if your on tax credits or benefits then you will most likely get some courses for free and others at a reduced rate. My ex is doing an OU course and seems to be getting that for free at the moment as she is on tax credits.
as far as I know they are as I have one in childcare and had to do it while I was working in a nursery as had to have all the units signed off as I worked on the job
you can also pay through OUSBAR which is a low cost type loan thing where you pay each month your tution fee for Open uinversity courses.
It's good if it's not possible to get any help with any courses.
🤔 was wondering to claim do u need to be gettin both workin and child tax? because we only get child cos we earn to much..
gypsey said:I think it depends on how much child Tax you get...we only get £42 a month child tax so we don't qualify for anything else, but I think if you get a higher rate you can be entitled for some things. We aren't entitled to working tax, I think you have to have a combined income of less than £15k to qualify for that.
:suspect: was wondering to claim do u need to be gettin both workin and child tax? because we only get child cos we earn to much..
I think ours is only the family element of child tax, it's that low I don't even need to renew them each year, its done automatically.
we earn 23.000 between us but mine is low this yr cos im on maternity and im not goin bk so i will loose 4 and half grand so donrt know but wud like to do something productive 😀
it has to be working tax credit as far as I know
We get working and child tax so if I decide to go ahead I'll definately look into funding
