Arrggg!!!! Explanation for JustParents being offline
Hi everyone.
You're reading the post of a man who is fed up with rubbish hosting companies, and is really angry and upset about the fact that JustParents has been down again for so long.
Basically, the server we were using died (again) - and our hosting company were less than useful in getting things back up and running again (bloody rubbish, in fact). I've been emailing, calling and texting, and it's been over a week since we reported the issue and still no update.
So, we've ditched them.
2 days ago I signed up to a new hosting provider, which happens to be in the USA where customer care seems to be a much higher priority than a lot of UK IT companies. We've now finished setting up the server and putting the latest backup of JustParents live on it, so we're now online again!
The good news
- We're on a new server now, with a very large and trusted company, whereas the last server was with a small UK company. Whilst I prefer to support small businesses, and the guys at our UK host were very friendly, they couldn't seem to deal with our support issues.
- The new server is more than twice as powerful as the old one, so the site should be very stable and have few issues with JP's growth.
- Our new hosting company have some of the best support in the industry!
- Our new server is backed up every single day of the year, so all your posts and details will be very safe. No more losing posts or data!
- If our server ever goes wrong again, we can get a new server up and running with the site backup from the previous day within 1 hour. No more long periods offline!
- Hapydazy should be able to surf JustParents super-quick, as our new server is not too far from her 😉
The bad news
- Our old host have been unable to get any data to me at all, and my last backup of JustParents was nearly a month ago. So, and this sucks, we have lost all posts, messages and new members for the last month or so. I'm not going to let that ever happen again.
- It's costing me a *lot* more to keep JustParents running (Although our advertising is just about covering the cost, yay!)
I'm really sorry for all the difficulties we've been having recently, but I'm really excited now about the future of JP, and we've taken huge steps in making sure that this sort of thing can never happen again.
I'm totally committed to keeping JustParents going, and growing, and I hope that you all can help me get the word out that we're back, and never going away again! 🙂 😀
It a shame the posts have been lost Rob, but I'm sure we all understand it's not your fault 😘
Fingers crossed you've now found the right host 😀 x
glad to see JP back - iv been pulling my hair out and missing my buddies!!!
hopefully this is the last of it *crosses every possible body part*
hey rob... you know when theres problems - is there anyway of you sending us all an email? i was begining to think the site had closed down - and the not knowing makes my mind run wild and i get 😢 and.... ok - being malodramatic now, but 😀 its back!!!!

In future, as our data is now backed up every day, we shouldn't ever have a situation when the site goes down for more than an hour, even in the worst situations. However we've learnt the hard way that we need to have emergency plans in place and one of these is an emergency homepage, located in a different part of the world, which we can use for updating our members if our new host were to disappear off the face of the planet. We'd also try and email all our members letting them know the situation.
Bless you Rob!!!!!
Great to see this placve up and running again! xxx
Glad it's back Rob. I thought perhaps it had closed for good. I even joined another forum but thought I'd have one last look today and YAH 😀 JP is back. Hope the hosting works well this time. I host a site in the USA too as I found UK companies were very poor at fixing issues and prompt contact.
im over the moon its back i thought that was the end of it aswell tried joining a few others but none have been like this one!! hoe all works out now x
sound slike it was a very stressful time Rob, Im glad you got it sorted, well done
And Thank you for working so hard to get JP up and running again.
That is so bad! I joined as the trouble started I believe.
It would seem these days suppliers of any sort are incompetent and don't seem to care anymore!!!
I hope you try take them down a legal route if it is possible an sure you can drum up some support rom regular angry users!! 😀
Hey Rob, let's hope there's no need for it now but if you're ever looking for another hosting company, it's what Mike does for a living ( www.netphixsolutions.com *little plug for him there* that's his company), just send me a PM if you're ever interested in talking to him about it ok.... I know he uses a server company (not sure if that's the right terminology??) in Florida and I think he's pretty happy with them, he said they are one of the largest in the states.
Hope your week has been better hun!
I got an email about it or i never would have known.
Reading this now it seem very funny! 😎
is that what happened to those new bords then abbe as i cant seem to find them lol
