Work
well i arrved at work yesterday and a few of my reception team were asking me if i'd applied.
'applied for what'
Well it seems my own job.
A year ago i was emplyed by a guy as his 'assistant' although the company calls this Reception Leader, after 3 weeks of being there he stepped down to my level as it wasn't what he wanted and we got a new Reception Manager, so we became shift leaders.
He has now left and they are advertising for an Assistant Reception Manager - different title, but smae job i do!
My manager emailed me at home on Monday asking me to give her a copy of my CV and an action plan for the next 12 months for the department. Which just has to be bullet points and how we can implement in the department.
I'm now VERY confused as i feel i am applying for my own payrise.
Stephen was on about 3k more than me and never had his salary dropped after stepping down, in my yearly review a month ago i mentioned that i thought it unfair he was on more than i for the same job, and he had been told they couldn't drop his salary as he did duty manager shifts. Last May i was also 'promoted' to Duty Manager but was given no 'payrise' as such.
I have so much respct from all the managers, General Manager, Operations Manager etc - who all tell me i should of applied when Stepehn first stepped down and most of the managers / departments will come to me rather than my manager if they have problems etc.
Suppose what i am saying is do i just supply what has been requested of me (closing date tomorrow) or go to HR and raise my concerns
Plus any ideas on what i can put in a development plan??
I would do what has been requested of you (your manager has asked and you have to do what they ask) But I would also speak to HR and raise your concerns. (all seems unfair to me)
As fopr your development plan I dont have an idea. Would it be things like how to improve customer service, staff training, ways to try and cut back on absences/overtime. 😕
alex said:Yep it would - i'm just struggling with the 'how to implement part'

My manager has only 'asked' me to do the above if i am intersted (but i do not understand where that leaves me and my position if i don't)...
I would ask HR then hun
Im not sure hopw to implement these things but I will have a think.
pmsl......
More bloody stuff to do! 😉
Sounds confusing hun, but what I could make out (sorry I have child mushed brains now lol), maybe they want to you to be in the position Stephen was in before he stepped down, but, like you say it seems a little like they are trying to get you to apply for a payrise! 😛

They've basically decided they need a manager plus an assistant manager, rather than a manager and 2 supervisors/reception leaders - so it's a new title and higher pay (although i was employed as Stevies assistant - but my title was Reception Leader)
Oh well, i've put in my development plan as asked - keep your fingers crossed for me though. 😎
The payrise is considerable and it's exactly the job i do already 😉
My manager is away tomorrow and i'm off tues and weds, so i should find out more on Thursday or Friday - but my Ops Manager said i'm the only one for the job - we'll just have to see eh??
Ah I see now lol
Well good luck hun, fingers crossed for you 😀
I'm sure it will help that you work there already and already do the job xx
I tend to think it's the fact that any new positions they create they have to advertise internally for atleast 5 days, therefore giving every employee the chance to apply if they would like to (even if they want to give the position to a particular person)
It's just rather annoying that i've been off and it wasn't mentioned - they obviously just assumed that i would apply and that would be that! 😉
Hey ho - we'll see
