Potty Training help
Amy is 2 years 5 months and has been without a nappy for 2 weeks now without any accidents. She has taken to it very well but the only problem is she refuses point blank to use the toilet and will only go on her potty.
I dont want to force the issue and make her afraid of the toilet so does anyone have any tips to encourage her?
We already have a stool and a padded training seat for her.
TBH i would just stick to her potty hun! Im sure she'll come round to using the toilet in her own time!
Failing that how about a sticker chart? every time she uses the toilet instead of the paotty she gets a gold star - and this will lead to a treat if she get enough stars? they work wonders with most children!
when my dd was potty trained she took to the toilet quickly but would only do a wee,she stil liked to poo in the potty 🤔 kids do funny things and one day just snap out of it 👶
I've just finished training our elsest dd (31m) and she was the other way would only do it in the toilet which wasn't very helpful when my youngest used to screem at the bottom of the stairs when we had to keep going upstairs, however the novelty has now worn off and she is happy to go wherever which is brilliant.
Like you say i'd try not to make too much of a fuss either way, perhaps take her with you and show her that her wee/poo goes down the toilet and let her watch mummy using the toilet. Failing all that if in a few weeks shes not come round you could always go for bribary, chocolate did the trick at this house.
Best of luck
Gemma
(abigial 19m did her first wee on the potty today!! really not trying to train her but she keeps insisting on using the potty - think its with watching her sister!)
I found i had the same problem and i got a seat for the toilet that had steps up it and a handle, because he could go by himself, when he wanted and he felt safe it didnt' take long for him to use the toilet and ditch the potty.
My son used only the potty for absoloutly ages.
I found it best just to leave him to it, when he was ready he chose to use the toilet.
It was only a bit difficult at first if we were out.
I think its the sitting so high that worried him. The potty sized insert to make him feel more stable definately helped.
He was late to be trained anyway tho. Just turned three. I think the only good thing with that was that it didnt happen in stages. He went dry day and night straight away.
I'm told girls to tend to be out of nappies sooner. So we shall see with my daughter!!
Good luck (patience is a virtue! lol)
my daughter is 3 years old and will not use the potty or the toilet has anybody got any ideas i am getting abit worried.
i wouldnt worry hun! elise wouldnt use the toilet ither, she would only use the potty, i even had to take the potty everywhere i went cuz she wudnt use the loo! lol but now she wont use the potty, lol shes rather the tolilet! shes been potty trained for about 7 months now. x x x
My son was just turned three when we finally got him potty/toilet trained.
We eventually found the best way was just say bye to the nappies and deal with the accidents. The first few days seem like a nightmare, but they very quickly adapt to it.
Good luck!!
😀
The best tip is never look back - never put a child back into nappies once they are off and be strong enough to cope with the accidents! 🙂 It can take ages for some children - ive helped potty train loads of children as i work with them and every child took a different time and stratagey to deal with it! I once had a child who wouldnt go in the toilet but would take the bowl out of the home corner sink and pee in that!
This is a life safer when potty traingin:
well worth the £6.99! fits in most hand bags/buggy bags!
Rhiannon is 2 and a half and has been dry now for just over 2 months. She has been really good and went through stages of not wanting to use the toilet only the potty and vice versa. I think all kids take to it at different times in different ways. She still has accidents, normally where she is engrossed in something or leaves it too late to go
