we are pretty lucky as the woman we had him off already paper trained all the pups - and when we had him she gave us a huge box of the paper toilet pads along with lotsa toys and a bed for him! hes made no messes yet as hes been ever so good using his pads.
i tell you what the little monkey did do when we got him home... he pinched poo out the cats litter tray - we were chasing him try get it off him but he ate it!!! so we have now put the door back on the litter tray (its the box type-but we had to take the dor off as our littlest cat wouldnt go in it with the door on)!!
Hey Hayley, hopefully this won't be unwanted advise but coming from someone who's had and fostered many dogs (was in rescue for many years), I would get him off the paper pads as soon as possible and get him going just outside. The paper will confuse him and then when he gets bigger (and he's might be a decent size dog) then you're not gonna want him going on a pad in the house. Take him out frequently and every time he goes outside make a huge deal of it with positive reinforcement. Try not to show anger when he does have an accident inside because dogs respond much better to being praised when they do something good then when they are reprimanded for being naughty.
I hope this helps ya some... also, doggies love kitty turds, it's gross but it's a part of life in the dog world, what ever instinct originally drives them to do it, they never got that domesticated out of them.
Good luck babe, like I said, it's a lot of work and frustration in the beginning but don't give up easily as many people do... he will become a great dog with great positive training 🙂
Oh yea, give Jaykey a big smooch from us here!
hapydazy said:yeh we have had dogs before (and my neighbour is a dog trainer) so shes give me plenty of tips.i know all the 'crucial first 48 hours' of having them home ect... hence the pads - instead of the accidents happening everywhere, he knows to use the pads so he snever had accidents - the pads started off in the kitchen and have been moved closer to the back door over the few days hes been with us - today is the pad outside day (plus its such nice weather for us to have him in the garden.) but he was in the yard last night and he did both a wee and a poop (so he was praised with cheese lol! as i didnt have treats in for him!).

today tho i have noticed him doing the circling thing (what they do as a sign they need go the loo) so i have been opening the door for him and hes soon darted outside!! so training is going very well so far! hes a little puppy einstein!!!
Awwww he's soo cute!
Good going with the training, we found it immensley difficult with Roxie. In the end we found that if she messed, just opening the door and ignoring her was the best way. She is good now and if she needs to go out she will sit right infront of us or circle us to go out. 😀
