Shopping with baby
Hi Everyone,
I am a student doing Product Design Engineering at the University of Strathclyde. For my final year project I am trying to redesign the supermarket trolley to better meet the needs of young families.
Right now there are usually two options, a bucket seat for a baby to be strapped into or a carrier for a car seat. I'd love to hear about your experiences using each of these as i understand theres problems with visibility when using them as well as physically lifting a car seat (with baby) on top of a trolley!
Any info or suggestions you could give to help me design a trolley to better meet a young families needs would be much appreciated.
Thanks for your help! ð
how about something like you would get in a hardware store for the car seat! as you cant see where your going with the ones now... raise the actual troley bit a little higher then we could put the car seat on a bracket underneath - say in the style of the 'phil & teds' buggy range! maybe even do the same with the normal chil seat too!
I dont use the car seat bit as am only 5,1 and cant see over the top usually just use the little seat with the straps which is fine
hey and if your project hits off - just remember where the ideas come from and who you need to split the profits with!!! ð
Cool project!I'm not actually sure what to suggest, good luck with it. Hopefully they do improve the trolleys ð
how about like a buggy board type of thing but change it to bikes or horses for toddlers..so they can ride along the side of the trolly or in front of it..it would be so much fun for them..

Don't know if this is going to make sense but how about a trolley slightly bigger and where the handle bar is have have a dipped "holder" where you could place a car seat, so you can face the baby but it's not 12 feet off the floor so you have to peer round the side of the trolley so you don't run over some poor old lady ð
I'd like to suggest some kind of trolley or basket that connects to a push chair because sometimes if I'm popping in for a few bits and I'm walking with the pushchair rather than in the car I find it really awkward to push the push chair and hold and fill the basket
really like the idea of a basket that can attach to a buggy or pram
Kel I think that is a brill idea!
well, u can aready get a flat-folding puschair that attaches onto the side of a normal buggy for the older child if uv been walking awhile so havin a foldable basket/cage thing would do just as good wouldnt it,look at this if u dont know wot i mean...
*i changed the link to a better piccys*

not sure about getting ound the ailse thou with one of them think it could be a hassle
more like something that attaches to the back of buggy
Hey thanks a lot for your feedback, a safe buggy board idea is excellent although im not sure if it would get in the way of your feet when pushing the trolley? It's def going to be pursued as a concept though. Right now I'm drawing up as many different ideas and solutions as possible so all of the responses help, thanks!!

something like a basket that hooks onto back of buggy with wheels to stop buggy tipping over
