Can anyone give me some advice?
Hi all
Bit of a newbie so I hope no-one thinks I'm being a cheeky cow by asking for advice but here I am!
Basically I have a two bed flat with hubby and dog without a garden. I'm 14 weeks pregnant and DH and I were discussing the problem of late night doggy walking when we've got lo and DH will be away (he travels a lot!).
So we've been trying to sell the flat and it isn't happening! We don't have enough equity to turn it into a buy to rent mortgage so has anyone got any ideas?
We wanted to part exchange but didn't have enough cash to put in.......
Any ideas? 😲 🤔 😲
I'm going to have to be the devil evil woman here, and say maybe rehome the dog? (i know, dog lovers will be screaming at me now!)
But if your about to have your first baby, is now really the time to be stretching yourselves financially and imposing such high levels of stress and disruption?
🤔
I can see where you're coming from - luckily both MIL and my parents have offered to have her until we can find something else.
The problem is at the flat we're losing our second garage and there are no other parking spaces so it's a problem anyway.
If we could sell the flat we wanted to rent a house and save some money up for a deposit and get some debts paid off, also DH has started a new job bringing in some more money which is great but this house selling business is a real pain!
i clearly see what faye is saying here - and she does make a very good point - also a flat is not a good place for animals anyhow if they only have freedom with a walk!
but on the otherhand - a pet is like a member of the family - so i know that its a big thing for you to decide to give your dog up - id never give my cats up,unless they harmed my son of course.also if your partner is away alot - i imagine the dog is not only for company, but for your protection too - which again, is something you really need when your home alone most of the time.
the thing is people wanting to start families dont want to live in flats - they want houses, with gardens for the kids ect... could you not get onto your local council? say you cant afford your mortgage and they will soon take you in.even if its just temporary till you have sold the flat then buy somewhere new?

It's such a pain - especially when we gave up a 3 bed house to live with MIL when FIL died and had to move out again. Argh!
I don't know about your area but our council will not house you if you make yourself homeless, only if you are made homeless by someone else ie landlord, parents etc. So if this is the same in your area they wont house you if you already have a home but then perhaps your area is different? 🤔
Oh I didn't know that............
I might go back to a developer and see if they will part exchange and push for help.
I dunno you just get to the end of your tether! 😢
all councils work in the same way (my best friend works for the homeing section of the council).
technically your not making yourself homeless - unless your witholding rent/mortgage payments - resulting in you being evicted. But if you say you cant afford your mortgage they will definately take you on, although you will have to provide proof of the joint income along with your outgoings so they can see for themselves...
another way to do it is to say you and your partner have split - make out you or him are living with a friend - the council will take you in within a month... a friend of mine did this, they claimed shed kicked him out - as they have kids (same sex) he said he needed a 2-bed, the council moved him within 2wks! she then moved in left the flat they were in and stated they were back together! iv got another friend whos wangled the council that much shes got 3 houses in her name!! she lives in one, her younger sis in another and the other she rents out to a friend!!
the council claim this and that but they are pretty dum to be honest! or try your local housing association! im with a housing association, have been nearly 4yrs now - housing associations take anyone on no matter what your background.
can you not get someone to walk your dog for you, otherwise would say find the dog a home,as this would solve the problem of moving as this can cost alot of money,
JOJO said:The problem is we need to move soon anyway because the flat really is too small and not only that I can't park here and my midwife can't visit because she'll get clamped - no exceptions 😲 so moving is going to happen I just don't know when!

It just makes me mad when I think we sold our 3 bed house to live with MIL and it all went wrong and we ended up without a house!
you should of moved her in with you! youve got your future to think about - whereas shes lived her life!
Hayley_Kev said:Lol oh I could write a book about the crap situation that turned into!! I can't blame her totally because it was an error on all sides but put it this way DH worked in Bracknell and we moved to Devon, I only saw DH at weekends in the end. When we moved and offered to take her she said she'd rather live on her own and be miserable than move East! 😲 😕

dont think they is much you can do until you can sell the flat, councils wont help as you are not homeless, the only thing I would do is advertise the flat more so you can sell ASAP,and in the meantime hold tight if no news near the time baby is due I would find my dog a new home like family to look after it,and when you get a new house and get settled I would think about getting your dog back then, you may feel like you dont want the dog back as you may be run off your feet with the lo etc, really hope you find somewhere soon, good luck
