Do any of you know the law?
Right guys I was told today that a couple in my road, who I have always found very odd and creepy, are paedophiles. Now obviously people do gossip and I don't know if it is true but legally where do I stand on finding out if they are on the sex offenders list? Can I go to the council or somewhere to ask? or will they not tell me?
I'd rather know and hopefully it will turn out not to be true but if it is I want to know because it freaks me out to think of them walking past me and my children out the front of our home. Supposedly their old neighbour asked to be re-housed because she found out about them and didn't want them near her child and if it's true I don't know why they've got a flat in my road as it's full of young families. I feel sick
I dont think the council will be able to tell you- breach of their human rights etc.
Im not sure if the sex offenders register is generally available for anyone to view (if it was and you knew the persons name then you could find out that way)
If in doubt go to CAB and ask
get in touch with your local councillor - he/she will be able to tell you where you stand - or your community cops
when i was younger i had 2 friends (of different streets) where it was rumoured that they both had paedophiles living next door to them - the rumour had it that the offenders werent allowed out during certain times (that of which children would be about; school runs/holidays ect)and we were never allowed to play in the back yards at their houses due to this either.
but the way you have to look at it is,these people have served their time and been given new lives and identities in different areas - you accusing/interfering could only cause things to spiral out of control.they have rights just like you do and you are not allowed to know their background - although they are trying to bring into force in the uk the new rule of parents being informed of local offenders around them.
another thing is,if they really were paedophiles, they would certainly not be put back together and especially not in the same area, that would be one of their terms of release. if they have'nt been in trouble for anything you are accusing them of then it may just be a rumour with them being 'odd'.there are some weirdos out there... and no matter how weird a person looks/acts or if they just keep themselves to themselves or whatever,it doesnt mean theyre somebody theyre not. im a right curtain twitcher - slight bit of noise and im there! doesnt mean im a peeping tom or pervert - regardless of what the neighbours may say behind my back!!
Although I do not yet know if they have been in trouble linked with children I have been told (off the record) by a retired Social Worker that they are on the sex offenders list
they wouldnt allowed to be anywhere near eachother hun if they actually were on the list - let alone living together.its probably one of them 'friend of a friend told me' type rumours. if you are suspicious just keep your family away from them and from playing anywhere by their house.
