just out of interest
does anyone have experience of a 1 year old bitting and also throwing themselves off the sofa (or anything else they manage to climb on) my little horror has started doing both and im not sure what to do....
Yes hun, and I'm quite sure most of us here have. Don't worry, it is more of a phase than anything. My daughter used to bite, this is going to sound awful, but, I had to kind of bite her back to make her understand that it hurt. She didn't do it again after that.
My son likes to throw paddies at the moment, today he threw himself on the floor in Asda and headbutted the floor 😲 🙃 it is attention and them just learning to assert themselves really.
see ive tried bitting her back and telling her no in a stern voice but she thinks its a game, she is very cute for her age i really dont know where she gets it from lol. she has terrible temper tantrums when you tell her no but the throwin herself off the sofa is just a game i think, she is just maaad 🙃
The biting back thing only really works if it hurts them, but as you have seen it can back fire. I'd hate to think what anybody worried about smacking or working in child protection would say about it.
You need to be firm, and assert control. If necessary move them to the naughty step or area, but it has to be somewhere where they are alone, and not getting your attention while being punished, otherwise they will continue to do it.
Also for a bit try and overdo the praise and positive attention whenever they do anything good. That way they will see it is much nicer when they are well behaved.
Another thought, is she still teething? She may be finding comfort when she is biting.
i was thinking something like a time out room (she will not sit still) lol for bad behaviour and yes she only has about 4 more teeth to show themselves, it wouldnt be so bad if she knew she was hurting you and stopped but she is very head strong
