boots an baby milk
i went to boots today to get my first tin of baby milk i thought i would use my boots card points to pay for it as it is quite expensive i was mortified when the lady said 😛 your not alowed to spend your points on baby milk nor gain any points for buying it i was stunned you get loads of points for nappies wipes other baby products but not on milk so i had to pay for it came to 6 pound something i just could not believe it ,,, i know at the end of the day i should breast feed and it would be free etc but i just cnat believe milk is exempt from the points system grrrrr 😐
yeah i found that but once they get onto a certain stage of milk i think it stage 3 u can pay with points its well 😠 ed up. what milk are u thinking of using?
is boots really that expensive i use farleys its less than £5.
but yea iv found that
i was on sma with izzy but she kept bringing up half her bottle as soon as she fin. so i moved her onto cow and gate and not had problem since.

Quote:So no advertising of baby formula is allowed, no discounts, no in-store promotions or any incentives to buy (including points systems like the Boots Points)
Parents have the right to receive accurate information on how best to feed their babies and infants. However, the inappropriate promotion of baby milk (which is sometimes referred to as infant formula) can confuse parents and undermine breastfeeding as the healthiest way to feed babies and infants – making it harder than ever for parents to make an informed choice.
In 1995, a law, based on recommendations from the World Health Organisation and UNICEF, was introduced to prevent companies from promoting baby milk in the UK.
Boots are not to blame on this one 🙂
What Rob has posted is correct, if you notice on the formula adds, they only advertise follow on milk not first milk as it can be seen to stop you bf.
I understand why they do it, but I do feel like it alienates formula feeding mothers and make us feel more guilty. I tried my best to bf George and still feel such a failure for not managing to do it.
ive bought cow and gate it was 6 pound something
Oh I didn't know that! It is wrong because this is making formula feeding mums feel bad and you shouldn't be made to feel bad. I found BF incredibly hard and Keira seems to thrive on her formula so I don't feel guilty at all.
I understand the need to promote breastfeeding ...but after weeks of hell watching my wife breaking her heart and getting upset at every feeding time I dont think there is enough or the correct information given out by health pros to let people understand that not everyone can breast feed and they certainly shouldn't feel bad about it ...also there is the matter of choice aswell and it just seems a bit forceful not to allow parents to accumulate points or save money for something that they spend a fortune on 😕

Depends with cow and gate, I had to buy George Comfort and it was almost £7 a tub, but I think the normal first milk is about £6 in the supermarkets round here. The cheapest I've seen is farleys but George could only drink cow and gate.
Charlotte had sma gold but it made her constipated, the HV's wouldn't let me change her formula though 🤔
ive been known to get a bit heated about the whole formula V breast feeding debate, but im getting over it LOL
what i find unfair about not being able to advertise, etc is that youre not given enough information to choose which formula to use, and the MW's arent allowed to tell you that either, which is really silly
we all know that BF is the way to go if you can, and if you want to, but you should be given info about the different formulas if youve made it clear that you will be bottle feeding - its all just more pressure to make new mums feel guilty about their own choices 😛
I agree Glenny, I wanted to breast feed Mia but she wanted her first feed about 40mins after she was born and because I had had pethidine and gas and air and then had to have forceps, which also meant having and episeotomy, which took 35 minutes to stitch back up, I felt I wasnt even on this planet so she had to be given a bottle! and I never recovered from the drugs for about 2 days! So by this time it was just easier for us all if she stayed on the bottle, and to be honest I dont think I even got any milk! but I have felt guilty about it 🙁 but she has turned out just the same as any other child! x

my HV is as much use as an ashtray on a motorbike - big long story which i wont get into, but i really dont know why this woman is getting paid for doing 😠 all
miaruby - i felt guilty for a long long time - the first time i gave cara a bottle i broke my heart and it definately contributed to my PND, but i look at her now and i know that we did what was best for her and all of us - she's so happy and content and its done her no harm whatsoever 😀
barry said:Oh god I remember going through that hell and sobbing because I felt rubbish for finding it so hard. The truth was that I hadn't been given the right support in hospital and nobody had shown me the correct way to breastfeed. So I ended up in a lot of pain, Keira wasn't getting enough milk and all because our technique was not correct. I never thought there was a specific way of doing it I just thought it would come naturally but it didn't. The truth is they let you down in hospital and then they make you feel bad for turning to alternative feeding. You can't win.

i had no idea about bottle feeding i knew rite from the start b4 i even got pregnant i would bottle feed my kids when i said that to the midwife she was like ok but here load of info about breast feeading and that i should seriously consider it cos i got eczema and breast feeding can help with that or some BS cos i got eczema and was bottle fed my cousin got eczema n she was breast fed and hers was worse!!! and when i was in hospital there was only a couple of us bottle feeding and i felt so ailenated and the woman in the bed opposite was crying her eyes out so much cus she couldnt manage to breast feed and felt so bad so im so glad i never opted to breast feed.
my midwife advised me to get sma gold which i did izzy was on it for about a month and she was bringing most of the bottle back up as soon as she finished her bib would be soaked through and i had milk stains on the carpet and furniture in my old flat my friend told me her child had problems with sma and moved theirs onto c&g which i did and i never had a problem with it and so glad i made the change so at the end of the day if the milk your baby is on is making them ill id just change it screw the health workers noone knows the child as well as its parents.
The law that stops companies promoting baby formula to parents doesn't stop formula companies advertising (or 'educating') healthcare professionals, so bear in mind that your health visitor may have been exposed to a huge amount of promotional literature from certain baby formula manufacturers promoting the benefits of their products over other ones.
