Just heard
that the government are proposing to get sahm etc back into work, by cutting their benefits! 😲
they say that people take staying at home and not workign to easily and that it costs on average a third of your wage to put a child into nursery full time!
(bearing in mind they are basing this in London - childcare fees £200 a week and a third of your wage!
I'd like to see how many women earn £600 a week 😲
Now you all know that i work full time, and dd is in nursery five afternoons a week Mon-Fri. We get tax credit help with this (although not a lot) as dp is running a business and not taking drawings out yet! And we struggle dearly to pay our nursery fees! But too go 5 houtrs a day, 5 days a week costs us more than a third of my wage!
It's about time the government realised most families are on lower incomes - this average 26k wage per person is just laughable in my opinion! Yep dp used to earn that and a little more - but not everyone does.
We certainly don't now!
However if dp hadn't of lost his job last Jan - then i may still be a sahm now!
Sorry turning into a rant but really annoyed me!
I dont know where they get thier figures from as work full time - dd attends nursery full time and even with my 50% - YES 50%! staff discount my nursery fees are still over HALF my wages!
It's pathetic - mums want to stay at home with their chidlren and if they have the money to then why not? I thought this was the whole point of extending mat leave to 9 mths (then up to 12mths by 2010!)
I think if a parent wants to stay at home with thier child and they can afford to do so then surely thats up to them?
I get no help with my childcare what-so-ever - and if i have to pay for 2 children to go to nursery there would be no point in me going to work! so how are they going to combat those people that need more than 1 nursery place?
I Agree - apparently they are making an anouncement this afternoon that their proposal is if by the time you child is age 11 - you are not working then they will stop your child benefit! 🤪 😬 ðŸ˜
Wolfblass said:suppose they6 see it as at 11 yr child is in senior school so u can work during the day but school hour jobs are bloomin difficult to find!

I agree. Up here it is harder to get back to work, we dont have any nurserys to put kids into and childminders are hard to find as many people dont want the responsibilty and the work that goes with looking after other peoples children
Is this the story your speaking about?

The child benefit is not what they are talking about, the benefits claimed by lone parents who aren't working and have school age children. Why are they claiming so income support?
The article states stopping entitlements when dependent children are 11 rather than 16. The chance to work for a better future and not force the government is a good thing, if you ask me.
I wonder how many children will grow up to want to support them selves and not be on benefits after seeing their parents grow and learn from this new set of changes. I think that the programs like this in America have made us a harder working stronger people. With the advent of shorter terms of welfare and the need for daycare for children babysitting coops are starting to come back. It costs no money but you owe the other parents equal time watching their children.
Do not be so quick to judge such changes, take every chance to better your life. Nothing worth having is ever easy least of all children.
ah i see!
That's how clear they made it on five news before lucnh time!
I can see now Sassy what they mean!
Stupid me... 🤪
