any one a bone marrow donor?
when i last went to give blood the nurse asked me if i had ever considered being a bone marrow donor.i have to admit that id never given it a seconds thought but ive been unable to put down the info leaflets since she gave me them to take away and so tonight i have just gone onto the website & filled out details to have paperwork sent to me to register myself as a bone marrow donor. If you are a match to any1 then u hav a 2 day stay in hospital. I'm already a blood donor so i help out that way and my oh thinks ive lost the plot signing myself up for anything and everything.i know its not a decision to be taken lightly but the way i see it your very unlikely to ever be a match so if i can help make a difference to someones life why not? it could be a member of my family needing a match one day and if no one put there names on the register there would be no hope for them.does that make sense? do you think ive lost the plot? is anyone else on the Anthony Nolan Bone Marrow Donor list?
I have considered it and would like to find out more what was the web site called you looked at xx 😀
No you are definitely not going mad, that's a very brave and honourable thing to do. 😀 I will also have a look as I think it's a great idea - although, like you, something I'd never even considered before. It's just not publicised as much as blood donation I suppose.
i registered years ago when there was a "drive" in our village. they were looking for a match for a young family man but unfortunately he didn't get a match and died a week before Christmas 😢
If i was ill i would hope someone could help me so i`m just returning the favour.
i'm fairly sure i'm on the register, seem to remember discussing it a while back at blood donation. May check that i'm on the list.
I don't think its mad at all, i think more people should do it. Compared to what the recipient goes through being a donor is nothing.
My uncle was once nearly a match, he went to a london hospital (all paid for by them) but unfortuately
after further tests they decided he wasn't suitable.
So on similar lines are people registered as organ donors?? I know i am but hubby isn't too keen.
