Bottles/Dummies
Hey every1, was just wondering what age every1's lo's came off their bottles or dummies. Lauren has never taken a dummy but she still takes a bottle and she will be 3 this year, my mum thinks that i should be weaning her off it but to be honest i dont feel the need 2, its a comforter for her when she's sleepy, she doesn't take it to nursery with her and only uses it when indoors, was just wondering what other parents views on this are, x
both jami and ben were bout 11 months when they came off the bottle. catherine was almost 2. bens never taken a dummy, but catherine still has hers at night 😊 trying to wean her off. jami was about 3yrs but she only had it at night. im the same as you hun. if it conforts them then so be it
I only took lottie's bottle away when she turned 3yrs old - we had a new baby in the family and told her that she needed to give her bottles to the new baby now as she was a big girl - and gave her a beaker by her bed at nite instead 🙂 She never had a dummy.
Thomas has a dummy but only for sleep time so i wont have a problem with him having it when he's older but only til about 3ish - i think after that age its not good for children to have dummies as the older they get the harder it is to take it way from them! xxx
Aaralyn started using sippy cups at about 10 months but still had warm milk in a bottle before bed till she was about 15 months. She had a dummy (binky, here) mostly just at night or naps till she was about 2 1/2 (I think) she did not want to give it up and she had a bad cold one time, couldn't breath through her nose but she wanted her binky in her mouth 😲 , so I told her I had to wash it, I secretly snipped the tip off, and told her I accidently broke it when I was washing 😲 she just looked at it, put it in her mouth, took it out, and said I don't like it like that (or somethin like that) she wanted it in her hand at night for about 2 nights then that was it, she was all done with it after that.
I'll be honest it bothers me to see 5 and 6 year old kids out in public with them but otherwise if it's an at home comfort thing, why not?
I felt that as soon as my lo's could more or less hold the bottles on their own they should go onto the cups.
BUT if you are happy with her having the bottle then so be it. When you or your lo decide it's time to change, maybe take her with you to the shops and get her to pick out a cup just for her milk before bedtime? x
Neither of my lo's have dummies, Charlotte sucks her thumb and George sucks his fingers, which I think is worse because I can't take away their thumbs or fingers Arrrg!
I've spent a fortune on beaker cups, colourful, fancy, flowery lol but she still prefers her bottle, i would never let her take it outdoors although she does sneak it out 2 the garden with her, but as u say the older they get the harder it will be, i have tried ''the bottle fairy'' story but she screamed the house down until i eventually gave in, she likes to take her bottle to bed so im thinking of trying her with a beaker at bedtime, wish me luck lol x
GlitzyGal said:Maybe try a little warm milk in a sippy to start with ... Aaralyn wouldn't drink out of the sippy at first unless it was warm milk 🤔

I took Cait off the bottle and 1 1/2. She did have cups and stuff, but had a bottle to get her off to sleep, naughty me!!Shes never had a dummy.
Joseph stopped taking milk in a bottle at about 10 or 11mths (he had been having juice in a cup since about 5mths)
As for his dummy at 10mths he stopped taking it during the day and it was only at bedtime and then I tried to take it away at 18mths but I found him sleeping with his whole hand in his mouth so gave him it back He then had a visit from the dummy fairy at 26mths and we have never looked back
meg stopped having a bottle when she was around 12 months and we put her onto a cup. She did quite well right from the beginning.
Her dummy went to the 'dummy fairy who needed dummies to make a castle' when she was 3... 😀 We were dreading it but it was easier than we ever expected. Considering meg was a 3 dummies in her bed at night girl, one in each hand and one in her mouth.. she accepted the fact that she was a big girl and that the dummy fairy wouldnt have anywhere to live if she didnt have enough dummies to make her roof! 😀 😀
My son was 10 months when we gave him a sippy cup, at first he didnt like it but after 2 days he was fine.I guess it depends on how much they need it (for comfort). My nephews are 7 and 4 they both still have bottles and the 4 yo still has a dummy i personaly dont like it (i think they are to old)but thats my opinion "sorry i hope i dont offend anyone".
I dont think there is a problem if she still wants her bottle to settle though.xxx
Edie will be 3 in january, stopped taking a bottle at about a year and a half but still has a dummy for bedtime and naps. i've had a few comments from people but i don't find it a problem, can't see what damage it can do long term, as i said to my SIL its a dummy, not crack cocaine!
how did you guys go about weaning off the dummy?

thats a really good idea. ill try it in a few months ( was aiming for a year but don think its gonna happen ha ha) x thanks 😀
Ah I wish I could have the thumb fairy 🙁
My dd had a dummy,we stopped her having it in the day at around 18 months but she still had it for bed until she was about 2 and a half. My ds never had a dummy atall.
My dd had her drinks in a cup in the day time but still had her bedtime milk in a bottle until about 2 and a half. My ds is 15 months and again has daytime drinks in a cup but bedtime milk in a bottle and I have no plans to stop this for a while yet. We chose to wean my dd from the bottle and dummy at night when we did as I was pregnant with ds and wanted to make all the changes before he came along, so she wouldn't feel it was his prescence changing her routine
