How do i handle this?
As most of you will of seen i have accepted a new job and am handing my notice in on Weds.
My current employers are a bit of an ass when it comes to employee relations - and have been known to either march people off the premises, withold money and be utter w***ers until your last day!
I've spoken to acas about the money side of it - but know weds is goignt o be an utterly difficult day for me.
We had a 'new manager' put in place a few months ago as front office manager - she came in stamped her authority, refused to actaully be trained in our department etc etc and made out to be the big bad bitch! She then crawled right up my ass because of my experience, tries to get me to solve her problems etc, everyone treats me like head receptionist as i am the only one who knows the system etc etc then every now and again she turns into a witch again! The last two weeks she's been bursting into tears as we are short staffed and she's expected to work etc. She isn;t the tough cookie really she makes out - and as she's had a bad fortnight i'm not sure how she'll react!
She asked me on Friday if i would be there next Friday as she'd be really excited as she's off on her hols on the Monday! Meaning when i hand my notice in on Weds they are not going to have enough time to find anyone before her hol, one of the receptionists is off with boken ribs, one has only been here 3 weeks, and the other is having probs at home and not answering her phone!
I know it's going to be a real tough day for me, she's going to cry and get stroppy all at the same time - and i'm worried as to how i handle the situation.
I really want to leave as the owners are real buggers, my job is sooooo boring adn the travelling is just too much, plus i feel like i've gone back 5 years in my career!
I've probably not explained it very well - but just wondered how you'd react in that situation.
I am a very confident and loud person at work - but i canot help feeling quilty!
It's hard hun - but dont feel guilty! why should you? but the sounds of it they have done nothing which makes you want to stay and be happy in your job!
TBH it sounds like they need u more then u need them so go for it hun! It seems like everyoen i know has workplaces like this! they like making u feel guilty for having a day off etc etc! but dont let it get u down hun u got a great new job to look forward to!! 😀
i agree i dont think you have anything to feel guilty about, at the same time though i would be feeling like you right now! i was talking to someone the other day about a similar thing. i was told to look after myself, make sure my family and my self were doing the best for us. just hold on to that, it sounds like from what youve said that this move is the best option for you. stick to your guns, do whats best for you.
i agree its a toughie. on one hand you have done nothing wrong so have nothing to feel guilty about. then on the other you dont want to leave on bad terms either. i hope you manage to find a happy medium. sorry not much help is it 😊
Just thanks for letting me vent, and thanks for your opinions!
Just remember it's not going to be long before you're out of there and off to a better place (can't imagine anywhere could be worse!) Just stick it out as long as you can and try to stay calm. Your new job is waiting for you just around the corner.
Ditto what everybody else says and 😘 😘 just think it will soon be over
😘 sounds like its not going to be easy telling them but just keep thinking that you will be out of there soon and it will all be worth it in the end 😘
good luck hun x x
At the end of the day, you have to do what is right for you - and making sure your office is fully staffed is NOT your responsibility. It is your managers, and its about time she started to act like one, and stop bursting into tears infront of the staff - its unprofessional, and not your problem!
Emily said:I agree. Although we are all human and have emotions, people have to learn to be professional whilst at work (Rob and I know this most of all as we work for the same small company!!) so maybe she shouldn't be a manager if she's bursting into tears at the drop of a hat! It's so easy to instinctively worry about far too much than is necessary - it's just a sign that you're a considerate, nice person. But now is the time to take a deep breath, and if they complain, say "Not my problem!!". Legally they can't withhold pay, or give you a bad reference providing you are giving the right notice, so there really is nothing to be scared of. If they try to pull any mean tricks, (and to be honest it sounds like they're just bullies) you should just get legal on their ass!! I bet they'll run a mile!

Thanks all so much for your support!!! 😘
You are rightr they are bullies - and they know i know the employment legalities as dp was constructively dismissed last year and it went to a tribunal last Sept.
I'm strong and preffessional at work and i do not let anyone beat me down -i just know it's going to be a tough day! Most of the people i work with now (ie the managers etc) are ex staff from where i am going too - but the hotel has changed and developed massiveley and is now part of a really good chain and not family run anymore. So i know they'll all be slagging the place off - which makes me more determined!
I look forward to a challenge and pressure - they all work where they are for an easier and quieter life - that's just not me! I want to go forward in my job not backwards!
Thanks again - i feel so much better about it now! 😀
Know this is old, but how did it go?
