Word of Warning - Kwik Fit

We've written to the head office of Kwik-Fit to complain.

The reason:

I heard a horrible clunking noise on my car and thought my exhaust had gone. So i took it to Kwik-Fit, who told me that the backbox had a split in it. They said i would need the complete exhaust replaced and quoted me a price of £349! We werent happy about this so out of interest, we took it to our local garage. Told him what Kwik-Fit had said. He had a look and told us that it was complete rubbish! I didnt need a complete new exhaust, just the backbox replacing, which he did and it cost me £60!!!

In our opinion, Kwik-Fit are ripping people off left right and centre. Someone told us that they had told their elderly mother, she needed 4 new tyres. She couldnt afford it and in the end, she got another 20,000 miles out of the ones she had on!!! It seems that others have also been ripped off, having work done which they didnt need and paying over the odds. 😠

I'm in two minds whether to complain to Trading Standards over this. There are a lot of people who would believe what they say and pay what they charge, some are vunerable people who dont have a lot of spare cash!

I never go to kwik-fit because I have heard so many horror stories about them ripping people off.

I have always found the smaller local garages always do the right job for the right price. I would always steer clear of big companies. Glad you are taking a stand and complaining!

i've written to Consumer Direct ( Trading Standards complaints as was ) to report Kwik Fit.

I've heard loads of horror stories about them too.

We know a mechanic, which always helps, guvvy jobs lol!

i`ve never had any problems either. I suppose it depends on the garage you go to 🤔

This same thing happened to me a week before we were due to get married! My exhust had a hole in it, took it to Kwik Fit who said I needed a whole new exhust! Cant remember the price but now way could i afford it also would need 4 new tyres!!!!!!!!!!!
Anyway took the car to a garage at the bottom of our road, yes needed a new exhust and they could do it for me for £120 which was a couple of hundred cheaper than KF, also asked re the tyres and they said there was nothing wrong with them!!!!!!!!!
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr if i had gone with KF they would have taken me to the fair and there was noway I could have afforded that with the wedding the next week.
Wish now that I had written to trading standards or something like that cause it is just dreadful they way the act!
So go for it girl get writing!

OMG my hubby has got really excited reading this! He runs his families tyre and exhust garage and has so many scary stories, especially aimed at woman and even more so mums driving their kids around. They have targets to meet and rip people off to meet their targets like spraying shock absorbers to say they are leaking. Never go to them, always go to independent garages as they need good feed back from loyal customers so always do a good job (just like my wonderful hubby!) Also briging in a few beers or home made cake works wonders with garage people!! they also under stste the price of tyres on adverts as they dont contain vat or fitting so read the small print. Could be here all night!
