Actually quite upset, even if it does seem silly
Ok, I'll satrt at the beginning.
when i was 11 i got a pet snake, since i left home it has lived at my mums. She decided she couldnt keep her anymore, as it was bputting off people viewing har house as she is trying to sell it, so we decided we would have her now there was more space at the new house.
Well, yesterday i went over to organise bringing her over. Gertie (i was 11 when i neamed my snake! lol) Has never so much as hissed at anyone. yes she is old and cantankerous but it has just never happened. My mum got her out the the tank to move her. she seemed fine then all of a sudden just went for my mum, bit her quite nastily.
My mum has said it would be best not to let other pople handle her as she wasnt used to it, but had never imagined she would bite her! No I dont want her and my mum is scared of her too, sdo there is no way we can keep her and she will have to go to the reptile rehoming centre. It is just so sad that after 13 years we are having to let her go before her time because of something like this. It actually made my cry, was very upsetting. It was really like something you see on telly, she just reeled up and then shot forward jaw wide open!
So on sunday we have to say goodbye to her, i know snakes arent an active pet like a dog or cat but she has been part of our lives, just being there, for so long. I know it soulnd morbid, but in all my life whenever a pet has died we have buried them and said goodbye. We wont be able to do this with her.
Sorry about the rant, just feeling sad and needed to get it all out.
On the plus side, a guy at the pup i work at said his daughter is trying to rehome her leopard gecko, so we might be having that instead, although they do take a lot more looking after so im still in two minds
🤔
awwwwwwwww hun. im really sorry 😀 13yrs is a long time to have a pet. obviously snakes are like cats and dogs and get grumpy when they get old. you cant really keep her with children around
((((((((huge hugs)))))))))to you hun
by the way its neither silly or morbid. we always buried our pets when they died. my old house must be like pet cemetary
O sorry to hear about that, that is quite strange behaviour tho!I love geckos they are cute!
😘 So sorry to hear that hun,i know how hard it is to lose a pet when they are ill or old so i can imagine it would be hard to say goodbye to your pet snake after 13 years.
Oh i hope your mum is ok.xxx 😘
so sorry hun i can totally understand why ur upset
we lost her cat to bowel infection, only had her 18 ths but i was so upset
big hugs xxxx
sorry to hear about that hun, any pet is part of the family. it's always sad when we have to let them go xxx
thanks everyone 🙂
Aw 😘 I'm sorry that you've been faced with this decision... A pet is a loved one regardless of how active they are 😍 or aren't 😉 I've cried over a fish before so I know how you are feeling.
Leopard geckos are great I had a couple for years and then I let my exboyfriend's daughter adopt them because she got very attached and when I broke up with her father I let her keep them.
big 😘 's to ya hun!

oh, i was hoping there might be someone who had had leopard geckos, do you think they make good pets, and do i need to be concerned about getting bitten? I read that their tails fall off if they are distressed and run away tho! I am slightly put off by the live crickets thing but im sure that can be hubby's job!
Mine were very friendly and never bit anyone. They would let anyone hold them too, they were very docile. It is true about the tails.. never happened to one of mine but the friend who I got mine from had one that lost a tail. They actually regenerate new tails 😲 . There are some types of geckos that can be very aggressive though, but not the leopards.
The cricket thing wasn't so bad as long as I reminded myself about the "food chain". You have to be careful to get the right size crickets for the size geckos you have or the crickets can actually bite and hurt the lizards if they are too big. I had a, umm, I forget what they are called but it actually got killed by the crickets as he was too small for them 🙁 and I didn't know that could happen. Anole, that was the name of it!
Sending you hugs it must have been a hard decision for you and its not silly to be upset at all. 😘
