Question for any non computer challenged people..
I want to do a disk defrag on the computer and when I go to the disk defragmenter, I get this response and I can't defrag it:
Disk Defragmentor has detected that Chkdsk is scheduled to run on the volume :(C:). Please run Chkdsk /f. with an OK tab in the box below
any one know what that means or what I have to do? I looked under scheduled tasks and there is no schedule set that I can see for the computer to auto defrag.
Any help would be appreciated, I'm pretty ignorant to some of the technical side of PC's and Marc doesn't seem to know what he's doing either (even though it's his PC LOL 😉 )
hmmm I just previewed this and it has happy and sad faces where there should just be : ( C : ) hopefully putting the space in between will make it so it's not smilies LOL
If you're on Windows XP:
Click 'Start', 'Run' (In right column next to search), then type 'cmd' and push return.
This should open a DOS prompt (Black window with white text) - in this window type 'chkdsk /f' and hit return. It'll prompt you to type 'Y' to schedule a check disc when you restart, so type 'Y' and return, then reboot your PC.
When you reboot, make sure not to 'press any key' to skip the disk check 🙂
[ Obviously ignore the ' I put around things to click/type ]
whoa... ok, gonna go give it a try, I'll let ya know how it goes..
Thanks Rob 🙂
Thank you so much Rob... it's defragging as I type. And big thanks from Marc too! He asked me how I did it and I said I'm smart cuz I know smart people hehe
Have a good night or good morning, which ever it may be for you when ya read this 🙂
I just saw you were on Rob, I just wanted to let you know the PC is running much quicker today 😀 thanks again
No problems 🙂 Glad it's working better for you now!
