Toddlers and talking...
My little boy Charly is 27 months, and still not really talking. He goes to clubs and Playgroup and has always interacted with other children (he is cared for fulltime me his Mum and his Dad) he doesn't go to a nursery for childcare. I've noticed at playgroup and his clubs that other toddlers his age are starting to talk, know their numbers and colours. If you ask Charly what colour 'red' is he can show you, but he cannot say 'red'. I ask him to repeat words after me, but he won't, he just doesn't seem to have any interest (if thats the right word..)
He's seen the health visitor who said he seemed fine and to bring him back when he was 2½ if no improvement. But we want to know if there is anything practical we can be doing with him. He is our number one priority... Does anyone know of any books, dvds or learning resources we could use to help him. Thanks!!
hey hun my little girl is 23 months and i like to spend time with her just reading different books, she never used to say much but she is really coming along now and repeats almost everything i say!
have you tried building blocks to use for colours and counting, trust me hun he will get the hang of it! every child is different and i really wouldnt worry too much! he will do it all in his own time and no one elses haha, kids ay they make you worry so much!
give him a few more months and then if you are still worried take him back to see the health visitor!
PM me if you want to talk hun! good luck xxx
my daughter is 24 1/2 mnths and her vocabulary is too good for her age, includin "no, go away, move" cheeky little devil...lol
ha yes mia often tells me to go away, very cheeky indeed! also no seems to be something she has started to say little bugga! cant help but laugh tho when she says it haha! x
firstly hun dont worry. my eldest was 3 before she really talked and my 2nd DD was having conversations with you at 2. they all progress diferently. just keep talking to him. point to everything and say what it is. thats what i was told to do with my eldest. if yr out point and name everything trees, house, car etc. he will get there. if he doesnt then dont worry still. my youngest has a development delay. hes 3 and is having speech therapy. since he started last september hes come along so well. good luck hun
HI welcome to JP 🙂
Try not to worry about it too much, they all seem to do things at there own pace, does he try making sounds of words??
My DD seemed to start talking really young but my Ds was aloy slower when I look back at vidios of her at his age IYNWIM
If your worried id speak to your health visitor about it, I think most children seem to come on lots with their speaking when they start nurcery 🙂
Charlotte is a little chatter box and always has been. George has just turned 1 and can only say 'oww' and 'mumumum' and 'daddee' so he still can't say those words very well, the only word he can say is my brother in laws name 'Edward'!
They all learn at their own pace. Charlotte could stand up and was taking a few wobbily steps by now but George just wants to crawl, although he can stand he hasn't got the courage yet to let go! So basically don't panic and relax, if you are still concerned when he is 2 1/2 take him back to the health visitor x
