Todler won't stay in crib

My son, who will turn 2 yrs old next month, is already climbing out of his crib (and falling and hurting himself). This started about a month ago when his younger brother was born. Since we adopted the baby, my soon to be 2 yr old got used to sleeping in our bed for the first 2 weeks (we were out of town for the adoption and my soon to be 2 year old was sick, so he would only go to sleep with his parents). But since we have returned home, he will not go in his crib. The only way for him to go to sleep is for him to sleep with me, or to sleep with his 6 year old brother if I stand there long enough for him to fall asleep. Even then, though, he'll get up in the middle of the night and come into my bed. I'm not sure whether to transition him into a todler bed, or make him stay in his crib with a crib tent. The problem with the todler bed is that I'm afraid he's too young - ie -he'll just get up and come into my bed. On the other hand, since he's been doing this for the last few weeks, I'm not sure if it's too late to put him back into his crib. Any advice is very much welcomed.

My son went into a bed at 2 and my daughter went into one at 18mths (because of being able to climb out!)

With my son it was just him in his room so he always had the door shut to keep him safe from the stairs and generally getting at things he shouldnt while we were asleep!

Now, with Josh and Charlie sharing a room, there is a room divider to keep her safe in her side!

I found that with Josh the novelty of going into a big boys bed actually improved him settling on his own.

my little boy was in a bed(just a normal single bed) at 14mths because he started ti climb out his cot and I decided I would rather he fell from a bed than the top of the cot. I did use a bed rail. He did try the coming through to my bed so I just put a stair gate over his door and he soon realised he wasn't to get up.

Hope you get something sorted soon

I did the same as the others hun. My dd started climbing out of her cot at 20months so was straight into a normal single bed (not a child's one) with a bed guard. DD now has her own child's bed. The best time to put them into a bed is as soon as they start climbing out of their cot hun before they hurt themselves! xx

yes i would definately try him in a bed! my daughter was in a child's bed when she was about 14 months old, with a bed guard! i used a stairgate at her door so she couldnt get out of her room, it took a few nights for her to realise that she wasn't allowed out of her bed but she eventually understood and now goes to bed and sleeps all night in her own bed which is great! if i was you i would give this a go but whatever you do dont give into him or it will never work hun! good luck xxx

one of my daughters was in a bed at 14 months and the other was is one at 13 months im sure he will be fine hunni x x

well my son would never go in the cot so he slept in with me and my husband,we new this was bad so for his first birthday we bought him a car bed which was low down for him to go in and out himself.ever since goin into his own bed he slept from nine til eight every night with out wakin up,i am so glad we got him that bed otherwise he would still be in with us. 🙂 xxx
