i hate work :( (updated could this help me)
Well i been in to work to ask to go part tme adn was told no - they arent taking on any part timers - they are getting a full time member of satff in to cover the other end of the girl who already does 2.5days so im not allowed to do the otehr 2.5days to her! i give up - going to wait to see what they come back with them call acas/cab, etc! its not fair they have let one girl come bk part time but they wont let me - i cant afford to bring 2 children to nursery no point in me working as 1 set of nursery fees os half my wages!! i give up! i have to go bk for at least 3 months anyway otherwise i have to pay bk the extra mat pay i got but it buggers up our days as df cant really have dd 5 days a week and she'll only be doing 3hrs a day at school so it buggers up df's day at work its not fair
Aw hon that's a nightmare. Can't you contact your union? You're entitled to return to the same conditions you were originally employed in. They can't force a new mum to go back full time. Check with citizens' advice, or contact a business lawyer (legal aid). Ask them where you stand. Shaft these arsehole with some real technical speak. OR refuse to go full time, expect them to sack you and then when they do go for unfair dismissal. Take it to court! It won't go that far anyways. Seriously, employees have rights in this country, and there is a serious leaning in favour of new parents recently. It's well worth a fight, the bastards.
They can't use the excuse of not taking on part-timers, they already employ you! They need to put their reason in writing to you. Ring Acas or CAB. I don't understand why they can't consider a job share for you and the other girl when they are getting in someone full time?
Good luck xx
this happened at my company, i went back part time 10-2 5days a week and another girl that wanted to do 2 days a week. well basically she took the company to one of those courts and she won a whopping 15 grand
good luck to u hun
i had to go to court because she was sayin that it was favouritism because my partner is my manager but he never had a say in all of it so they diddnt see it like that. but fairplay she won anyway
found this online:

about working part time after mat leave and a lot of things seems to point in my direction especially the parts where they say to ask if other employees are working part time (which we do have!!)
Quote:
You should look at your contract of employment to see if there are any provisions that allow for flexible working. You could also contact your human resources department to ask what your employer's policy is on flexible working and whether any other employees are working part-time.
surely this measn they have a have a bloomin good reason to say no to me as they have 3 staff working part time!
i had an almost identical prob after returning 2 work after my second daughter was born.i 2 saw no point in paying her childcare for 2 kids when it was leaving me in a position where i basically worked for nothing else.contacted citizens advice and found employer had to take me back part time as i was already employed and she had allowed others to return on part time basis so refusing me would be discriminatory.the only way they can get away with saying no is if your requests are unsuitable to the type of buisness ie small buisness very little staff or if you want really silly hours and they couldnt get anyone else to cover the rest.dont put up with it fight them all the way and good luck
