thinking about when i go bk to work...
...not yet lol not due bk til jan! but im already stressing myself out about it!
as my childcare is near enough half my wages im thinking about going bk part time (2.5 days a week) and df having ds while im working so not paying any nursery fees but bringing home around the same wages iyswim? how should i go about this? i know work cant just refuse without good reason but we are short staffed but others have just come bk off mat leave part time so wondered if they could say no if they have let someone else do it? and what would u write in a letter? i would also need to choose may days as df cant have ds on a monday as he wuold be taking him to work with him (works for his mum so can be flexable if worse comes to worse) but monday is his busiest day also the benefits of working part time are great s it means i'll be spending more time with ds and dd which is what id love plus still geting the money and social aspect fo work - not sure work will like it though!
I dont know the exact in's and outs...but i do know that an employer is legally required to be flexible with your working hours after you have been on maternity leave. Basically i think they have to let you come back, and they have to let you come back part time.
I'd just call CIB to check, but i do know that in the last few years more pressere has been put on employers to accomodate the different needs of new parents.
xXx
Hi, you have the right to apply for flexible working. Whatever that maybe to suit your needs eg. part time, late start etc. But your work place don't have to give it to you. It is very good that others have been given it as that will help you. I would work out exactly what you would like to do hours days etc and put in a letter as well as maybe organising a meeting to explain what you want. I always find that by doing things in person you can see someones reaction and a letter just backs up what you have said. I am currently applying to work from home part time and was advised to put in the arguements against me having this and how I would solve them. Good luck and HTH x
I wanted one day off per week but at first they brushed it off and my boss said the director would probably not be happy with that.
I managed to reduce my hours by only 4 (from 39 to 35) when I left to go on Maternity. When I went back to work I told them I was having Wednesdays off! They knew they didn't have a leg to stand on really so I now work 4 days and do 29 hrs instead.
I know they have to let you apply for different hours and they have to have a good reason to turn it down. I would write to them first and see what happens and go from there.
