Moving House - your nightmare stories
It is just me or is moving house a total nightmare. I've always had bad luck & wondered if i was jinxed or other people had the same issues.
I put my house on the market in 10/2002, it sold immediately (wow), but they pulled out so I lost a house i was buying. Got another buyer, they pulled out, again i lost the house i was buying. Got another buyer, they pulled out, lost house number 2. got another buyer they too pulled out. Finally I sold my house to buyer number 5 in 03/2004 - we just moved out & thought about buying a new one later on. We found a new house & put in an offer, we were about to exchange, but they decided to put the price up by ÂĢ50K, so we had to pull out as could not afford. Finally bought 2 smaller places instead as was desperate(another story totally) & have been happily installed for 2 1/2 years. Have now had a baby so need to sell up 1 property as can't afford & guess what, have been on the market since Jan & have had 2 buyers already pull out! i absolutely despair, i've spent thousands over the years on solicitors fees, surveys, mortgage application fees etc & there's no reimbursement from anyone. NIGHTMARE!!!!! Why do people put offers in on houses when they've no intention of seeing it through! there is/was nothing wrong with my house, people just kept changing their minds. ðĒ
I really hope that you are jinxed! Don't mean that how it sounds, we are just putting our house on the market as we need something bigger and I really hope we don't have so many problems. We have seen a house that we really like but it isn't built yet and we would have to commit to it before selling ours so I really hope everything runs smoothly. Some people just have no consideration, bunch of ð . Hope you manage to sell it soon. Kerry
Me and DH have sold two but never had anyone pull out on us though.
I must admit though moving is sooo stressful, we had problems with the mortgage company last time!
Hope you have better luck with the next offer hun and it all goes smoothly from then on x
Your right it is a nightmare and so stressful and so much money ð Its been a full time job and all the paper work, phone calls, people lying and who do you believe, the amount of money. It made me a little ðĪŠ Hope everything works out for you cathyg. The only advice I would give is be on your estate agents backs, ring them everyday and they will want to sell your property to get rid of you.I really made friend with mine and Im going to give the wine and chocolates next week when we move.Be straight with them and no where you stand.Change agents for a fresh start if you need to.Its hard but we brought a house with no chain the lady had moved out and it was more than we wanted to spend. But the no chain was so tempting.I will stop worrying until we complete xxxx
We are moving next Thursday and cant wait to have a room for our little one.We had to really stretch ourselves and up to our eye ball in mortgage ðĒ but we had to cause we don't want to go through that again. We found a house with no chain but it still wasn't straight forward cause of our buyers !!!
Hope all your moving house goes well xxx Relief when me have settled in xxx take care xxxxxxxx
we put our house on marked friday so i guess we have all that to come!
The only trouble we had was we moved to a 2nd floor flat and couldnt get the nice 2nd hand leather sofas up (donated by MIL) so we ended up with their old sofa from the bar which is a nice flowery patterned sofa!
were hoping to move by the beginning of june although we haven't exchanged yet, once we've exchanged i think i will relax a bit, just worried were going to lose the house. it is a complete nightmare, the solicitors must get about an hour a week to deal with each client and unless you bother them everyday they don't seem to do much at all.
hi rustie xxx hope all goes well ð
Your so right you have to phone them to make sure they don't put you to one side,
My advice would be if its a quick sell like ours x
If you live near you solicitor tell them you will pick up letters ect and don't go through the post (takes so much longer)
Hand deliver letter/forms and cheques ect much quicker.
I even went to the planning department to collect plans. Then took them to our solicitor they photocopied them. Then I took them to our buyer solicitor. Took me 1 hour but would have taken 3 days + a Sunday if it went by post.
Good luck xxx happy moving xx ð
i guess i must be jinxed, i do take all the paperwork by hand. i email the agents, the sols, i ring them constantly to chase up & make sure all going well, but it just never works out. People just let me down. Had 4 viewings booked in for last Saturday & 3 people cancelled at the last minute! Perhaps its just the sort of people that live around here! Hope none of you guys experience any issues. X
Maybe it is just crap estate agents! We booked a viewing to look at a house we really liked for last Sunday. It was pouring with rain when we got their and poor old Millie had conjunctivitis and was feeling very sad. We ended up stood outside for ages because there was no one in! Turns out the house had sold earlier in the week and the agent hadn't bothered to tell us ð Guess who won't be selling our house for us.
Bedhead said:Oh that is just ridiculous, my current agent is pretty crap, so i might change if nothing much happens soon. Last week a viewing was done without my knowlege, the flat was a total tip, toys everywhere, wet towels on the floor (i'd had to rush out to drop Freddie at nursery then on to work). Apparently they forgot to tell me. I was not happy & went mental. I mean how hard is it !!! ðŽ

Our estate agents arranged our completion date....and didn't tell us! They reckoned on they had rung us and left messages, the woman who was buying knocked on our door in the end because her solicitors weren't getting an answer from our solicitors as they had no idea either! We wouldn't ever buy a house or sell with them now!
Fortunately we had great agents second time around but since heard they've changed their staff and they are really rubbish. Our solicitors were fantastic too it was the mortgage company that time that let us down!!
