Poor parenting obsessed me with books

Hi
My name is Caleb and I am a new member in this forum. I will highly appreciate sharing more with you. As a young boy, I was brought up in a rural village where morals never mattered. Respect was lost towards the elderly. While at school, I was only absorbed in books and never bothered to do home chores as I thought it never mattered at all to me. Hunched in the sofa, my mum used to bring me the food on the desk where I seated. No one dared to counsel me about the life after school and its consequences if handled daringly. I used to eat hurriedly to concentrate in books. Ran from school at a pace not to waste time as I was obsessed with books. In a bid to please my mum, I always carried the handouts I used to be given in school. I always ignored the teachings of my grandmother as I was always in books and never seemed to care about anything coming from my elderly brothers and sisters. During my school holidays, instead of engaging in constructive tasks that would help me grow skillfully, I was so addicted to books. My life was always on books. It was one day that our school was to award the best student. At that time performance in classwork was not the only determinant in awards. An all-round student was required who actively performed well in other activities apart from classwork. It was a very sad day for me and I had to rethink about it one more time.
