youtube videos, harmful or harmless?

My son loves minecraft. He especially loves the idea of mods but currently our computers are not capable of mods. So instead he watches videos on youtube of people playing mods. I on't really like it and try to limit it. Do you let your kids watch video game youtube videos? Do you think they are harmless or harmful?

I don't know much about minecraft but I know what you mean about watching videos on youtube. Somehow I can't figure out if there is anything wrong with it, but yet I still don't like it, and think in someway it's not a good thing.

I'm not sure what it is. Maybe because they are uncensored and random clips, and it's different that sort of knowing what they are watching on tv.

My son loves watching Minecraft videos on Youtube. I do not think that those are necessarily bad but I limit what they can do on Youtube as there are lots of videos that are inappropriate on there. I have seen something about a Youtube that is for children though but have not checked it out yet. I wonder if it would be good. Is there a way to have parental controls on Youtube so that they are limited to subject matter. I tried but I am not good with technical things so I do not know what I am doing. It would be good if they did though.

I posted something like this the other day. I don't think allowing children to watch to much TV or get on social media like YouTube should be monitored thoroughly. My daughter recently was given her own android phone. It is meant to play educational games or watch videos made for kids. I don't allow her to watch anything but kid stuff. I blame the media for a lot of the wrong doing's that goes around and want to avoid my daughter putting into her head. Give a little leverage in letting him take interest but don't let those games consume him. If you keep him from exploring he will find ways to do it when you aren't looking or have a chat with him with your terms on the games and videos.

My son watches YouTube videos regularly but I moderate it; there should be time for learning and playing with toys. If you get uncomfortable with what your children are watching, simply disengage them from it, they are kids and over time they will forget about it.

My son loves watching videos on YouTube as well. As far as video game videos go, he does watch a few too although he just clicks on it accidentally. For me, everything should be in moderation. As long as you let them watch it a few minutes a day to an hour and not more than that, I don't think it can cause any harm. As parents, we have a lot of things to do and letting them watch is a way of accomplishing those tasks.

You should also enable your child to do other things. Expose him to play time with other kids as well as to other activities. This way, he isn't just confined to watching YouTube videos.

Like anything on the internet I feel like YouTube has both good and bad things. There's plenty of great educational child friendly videos on there, but the thing that scares me is that you're always just a few clicks or searches away from the dangerous stuff, you know? That's the part that's difficult!

My boy is also a Minecraft junkie. He watches The Diamond Minecart a lot. I also enjoy watching DanTDM play games. He does not cuss and is fun to listen to. My son does find some crazy stuff on YouTube though. There have been numerous times where we had to say "Hey there, Change it." There should be a better way for parents to not allow such videos when they come on, like the not interested button. My two-year-old daughter is addicted to YouTube as well. She loves the toy reviews and the surprise eggs. As parents we need to keep an ear out to what they are watching, and periodically check the devices to see what they have been searching for and watching.

Well, I am very strict on this, as I don't allow my children to watch TV at all. We have read a lot about the negative effects, and made this decision since my eldest was born. We even removed the TV from our home. I don't let my children play or watch video games.

I do let my children watch some YouTube videos once in a while, perhaps 20 minutes in a week, but I chose what to let them watch, usually just nursery rhymes or storytelling.

Minecraft is pretty harmless but you should keep an eye on the other videos your child might press while watching Minecraft tutorials..

Watching youtube videos is in a way harmless as long as you limit there screen time. Anything that exceeds 2 hours a day is bad at least in my opinion. If your child watches videos more than that, just make sure that it's educational and is not of violent nature. Make sure also that you turn on the parental controls of your device so that you're child does not get to watch videos which are off topic.

i didn't allow my kids to watch videos on the internet unsupervised when they were young. Now my daughter is 13, i allow her; but we have rules and trust her that she won't break it. while my son is old enough to know what is right and what is wrong, he's already 18

Hello hope you are well.

I believe using the YouTube kids App might help abit as it will filter most of the content but as it is atomically done (so many videos are uploaded per second it would be impossible to track them manually) but so far it is the best option.

I myself have actually started a YouTube channel, not minecraft yet, but all the content is child friendly (the games and the language). I don't expect to earn money from it or anything but at least its one more channel that is appropriate haha.

My name and channel is the Good Natured Gamer, so I help you and your family like it :).
