pee under the seat

My son is almost ten. He sits down to pee. So does my husband. He often gets pee under the seat of the toilet. It drives my husband crazy. It is a constant struggle. He doesn't even realize he does it so he doesn't remember to clean it up. Has anyone else had this problem? How would you fix it?
