Nanit Pro Smart Baby Monitor

When we were expecting our first baby, one of the items we spent the most time researching was a baby monitor. There are so many options out there, and we wanted something that would give us peace of mind at night without constantly having to sneak into the nursery.
 
 After a lot of reading and recommendations from other parents, we decided to try the Nanit Pro Smart Baby Monitor. We’ve now been using it for several months, and overall it’s become one of the baby items we rely on the most.

First Impressions and Setup

Setting up the monitor was actually much easier than I expected. The camera mounts above the cot, giving a clear bird’s-eye view of the whole sleep space. The app walks you through the installation step by step, and we had everything up and running in about 15 minutes.
 
 I like that the design is quite simple and doesn’t look bulky in the nursery.
 
 Once connected to the app, I could instantly see the live video feed on my phone.

Video Quality and Night Monitoring

The video quality is excellent. During the day it’s crystal clear, and the night vision is surprisingly good too. Even in a completely dark room I can still see my baby clearly enough to check if they’re asleep or just wriggling around.
 
 One thing I’ve found really useful is that I can check the monitor without making any noise or opening the nursery door — something that would almost always wake our baby.
 
 The two-way audio is also handy. I’ve occasionally used it to speak softly through the monitor if my baby stirs before I go in.

Sleep Tracking Features

This is probably the feature that sets the Nanit apart from most other baby monitors.
 
 The app tracks things like:

• how long the baby slept
• how many times they woke during the night
• patterns across several days

As a new parent trying to figure out sleep routines, this has been surprisingly helpful. It gives a clearer picture of whether sleep is improving or if we’re having a particularly rough week.
 
 There’s also an option to monitor breathing motion using special Nanit sleepwear, which some parents find reassuring during the early months.

What I Like Most

After using it for a while, these are the things that stand out the most to me:
 
 Great video quality – the overhead view means you can see the whole cot clearly.

Sleep insights – the app makes it easy to spot patterns in sleep.

Smart alerts – I get notifications if there’s movement or sound in the nursery.

Checking from anywhere – because it works through Wi-Fi, I can check the monitor even when I’m not in the same room.

A Few Downsides

The biggest downside is the price. The Nanit is definitely on the expensive side compared with basic baby monitors.
 
 Some of the more advanced sleep insights also require a subscription, which is worth knowing before you buy.
 
 It also relies on Wi-Fi, so if your internet goes down you temporarily lose access through the app.

My Overall Verdict

After several months of use, I can honestly say the Nanit Pro has been one of the baby products we’ve used every single day. Being able to quickly check on our baby without disturbing them — especially in the middle of the night — has been incredibly reassuring.
 
 It’s definitely a premium monitor, but if you like the idea of video monitoring combined with sleep insights, it’s a really impressive piece of baby tech.
