Roxanne

Roxanne carries a clear sense of light and new beginnings derived from the Persian name Roxana, which is often interpreted as relating to dawn or brightness. That original image of first light gives the name a quietly luminous quality, suggesting clarity and fresh starts.

The tone of Roxanne is both feminine and self-assured. It can feel romantic and slightly vintage, yet it also works well for a child growing up today because it has friendly, modern nicknames such as Roxy. The name balances elegance with a touch of boldness, making it suitable for parents who want something classic but not overly formal.

The name Roxanne is an English form that traces back to the ancient Persian name Roxana, or Roshanak in Persian, which carries the sense of light or dawn. Roxana is best known from history as the Bactrian wife of Alexander the Great, and that association helped the name travel across regions and languages in the ancient world.

Over centuries the name adapted to different tongues, producing forms such as Roxane in French and Roxana in Latin-influenced traditions. In the English-speaking world Roxanne gained popularity in the 20th century, boosted by literature and music that framed it as both romantic and modern. Because the name has multiple well-established forms, it feels both rooted in history and fresh enough for contemporary use.
