Adelie

What does Adelie mean?

Adelie is a French diminutive of Adèle, rooted in adal ("noble"). It is also associated with the Adélie penguin, named after Adélie Land in Antarctica, which in turn was named by explorer Jules Dumont d’Urville for his wife Adèle. The name is dainty and French in flavour, with both noble and natural-world connections.
