Incy wincy spider
The Incy-wincy spider,
climbed up the water spout.
Down came the rain,
and washed poor spider out!
Out came the sun,
and dried up all the rain.
And incy-wincy spider,
climbed up the spout again!
Origin of Incy wincy spider
The song “Incy Wincy Spider” (or “Itsy Bitsy Spider”, as it’s known in the US) is originally thought to have originated in the United States, at some time during the 1800s. It was first published in the book “Camp and Camino in Lower California” in 1910 and was then referred to as “that classic, the Spider Song”.
However, the lyrics were quite different back then, and over the years a more family-friendly version has become a global classic. The original version would likely still be a hit today with the older, more rebellious child experimenting with “rude” words!
Original Lyrics
“Oh, the blooming, bloody spider went up the water spout,
The blooming, bloody rain came down and washed the spider out,
The blooming, bloody sun came out and dried up all the rain,
And the blooming, bloody spider came up the spout again.”
