So, I finally decided to bite the bullet and cut my hair. It had been long since pre pregnancy, but a ton fell out after having my little one (ughhh...handfuls of hair!) and it just hasn't seemed the same since. I decided to just get it cut short - and I wish I did it sooner! The style is actually really cute and it's so much easier to get ready in the morning - a couple of sprays of texturizing product and a quick scrunch and I have beachy waves in my bob! I felt like with my long hair, it just took too long to get ready in the morning, and I ended up just throwing it up in a messy bun or ponytail most days anyway.
Hubby loves it too - win win!
Have any of you gone for the mum/mom cut since having kids?
The mum/mom haircut
Yay! Im so happy you found a new look that is easy and works for you! That's the best, when you get a completely new cut that you feel awesome in.
I did go to an ultra short bob (not on purpose, but by an overzealous hairdresser) and it turned out to be an awful move for me. It really did not suit my face in the least and it took over a year to grow back to shoulder length. Finally two years later I am back to below the shoulder length and I'm feeling myself again! So the mom cut turned out to be not for me.

Ah, I hate when you try and explain to a hairdresser what you want and it ends up drastically shorter than expected! My hair grows really slowly, too, so when they hack off too much I'm basically in tears!
I brought a bunch of pictures with me this time, of styles I liked, and asked if it would suit me and if she thought she could replicate those types of cuts on me.
It's funny though because when I have short hair I find myself dreaming of it being long again, and when it's long I just want to cut it all! Grass is always greener on the other side I guess!
I just recently decided that I was going to go with short hair. I too felt that it was just too much work messing with it in the mornings and would just put it up anyway so why not just get it chopped off? I looked for pictures of the right haircut that I thought would look good on me and I went to get it done. I showed the pictures to the stylist and she glanced at them and pretty much just chopped my hair nearly off completely. It was shorter than I expected and it did not do what I wanted. One of the drawbacks of having naturally curly hair. Anyway, now that it has grown some I do not mind it but at first it was hard to get used to.
I guess I'm the oddball out here. I've never wanted to have short hair and as soon as I was old enough to make those decisions on my own (my mom always kept my hair relatively short) I never again had short hair.
I don't find that putting it back when I need to causes any problem or takes any extra time, so I've never felt a need to have a short hair style. It's been a lot longer than it is now, but even now it's still a few inches below shoulder length.

Nope I can't say that I ever wanted the mom hair do... Probably because growing up I looked like a boy with short hair. But I can see why mommies prefer short hair. Much less fuss and maintenance. I also don't think my face is shaped for short hair. But I think it looks good on most people and they seem to always love a new change.
@mariposa one of my girlfriends is the same as you - she just prefers long hair! She's lucky because her hair is nice and thick so even when she throws it back in a ponytail she still looks chic and glamorous - my hair is not very thick at all so I'm kind of limited with styles and stuff! Short hair has made it seem like I have way more volume too which I love!
