My favorite childhood book (and it is still my favorite now) is The Hobbit. It awoke my desire for adventure and exploring. It is a fun story. The plot is simple enough for a child to follow, but mutli-faceted to engage my adult self after the hundreth re-read. Bilbo Baggins, to me, is one of the most enduring characters in fiction. Plus, there is a dragon. I cannot wait to read it to my child. Between Gollum, Smaug, and the other characters, imagine all the fun voices you could use to bring the story alive.

Bookworms, are there any books from your childhood you want to or have shared with your child? Did they love it as much as you?

I absolutely adored the Anne of Green Gables series. Seriously, I just wanted to move to Prince Edward Island and live there!

One of the things my husband got me when we were dating was the entire set of new Anne of Green Gables books, since I didn't have the entire collection when I was younger (I borrowed them over and over from our library!) and it's one of the sweetest things I've ever received. I'm a sentimental one so the fact he knew I loved the book series made it so thoughtful to me.

I'd love it if my daughter was also interested in the books!

Oh, I loved Anne, too! I've got two little girls, so hopefully one of them will enjoy the series. I can't wait till they're a little bit older (they're 7 and 5 right now). I just tried to read The Best Christmas Pageant Ever to them, and neither of one of them were very interested in it. Maybe next year!
