Risks associated with placenta previa

Hi all

This is my first post Smile and I just wanted to find out what people know about placenta previa and what advice you were given. My sister has just been diagnosed with it and she was told to stay off her feet as much as possible and expect some slight bleeding. I know they move up and out of the way in most cases but what experiences have other people had with it?? What risks did the midwife tell you about??

Hope everyone and their bumps are doing well! x

Heya, I was diagnosed with this at my 20 week scan, i wasn't given any safety guides (eg. rest etc) and was booked in for another scan at 32 weeks, i had this scan yesterday and it had gone back into place. My midwife didn't give me any advice on this either and said that it normally will go back into place and that there is nothing they can do in the meantime so to just see how things go, if it didn't move then they will discuss birthing options nearer the time (35+ weeks)
If it is something she is worried about then she should just do what she feels comfortable with throughout the pregnancy

My ex BF's mum was a nurse and she was in hospital after giving birth to her 3rd child when the woman in the next bed was told she had placenta previa.

It basically where the placenta is below the baby so when you go into labour the placenta comes out before the baby if you have natural delivery. The lady in the next bed was carrying twins and unfortunately one of them died cos of this condition. So its pretty serious and the midwife should be as helpful and supportive as they can. Hopefuly like Eamesy found it corrected itself if not they will discuss her options at the time but she may need to prepare to have a c-section.

hope everything goes ok for your sister
