question about the sweep and stretch.

Hello,

I'm just wondering how many of you ladies went in for the membrane sweep and the cervix stretch? I would also like to know how far along you were and if it worked or if you had to have it repeated at your next appointment.

the only reason i'm asking is because i had it done at my 38 week appointment and last night was having really bad menstrual like cramps and they just got more and more painful to the point i was in tears. but i was able to sleep through it. and this morning i still have them but they are milder. i just want to know so i can have an idea as to if i'll need to have it done again on monday when i go back in for my 39 week appointment

Is there a reason you were give a sweep at 38 weeks? Mine do not do this until you are 40+7??

they gave me the option to have the sweep or not since i was 38 weeks. and that i had the last ultrasound at 36 and everything was fine so i had the option and figured i'm tired as heck and very stressed so it can't hurt to see if it will put me in labor.

I had one done at 39 weeks but it didn't work and thinking back, it probably wasn't done properly as it didn't feel even a tiny bit uncomfortable.

I was induced on my EDD and they did one then after using the gel and it certainly got things started. It was pretty uncomfortable and I did say 'owch' a few times! Worth it in the end though

Hi I had one done at 39 weeks, labour had started but was very mild and slow and when went to hospital (contractions 5 min apt), only 1cm dilated so midwife did one when did Internal, no sooner had i stepped out of the hospital to go home did it labour really start was back in hospital a few hours later. As they did one for you at 38 weeks they may do again when you go back if things havent progressed cannot say for definate though probably depends on midwife as one of mine said she wouldnt do until 40+7, hope all goes well

I had 2.

First at 40+2 weeks.MW said my cervix was still high and all there. I then had my next one at 40+6days in the hospital. They said my cervix was soft then. The next evening I was induced with the gel and it took staight away. MW said having the sweeps helped, if I hadnt had it I would probably have taken a while to start with the gel.

Neither were uncomfortable or caused after pains.!!!

I know someone who had hers with her 3rd baby and went in labour that evening.

yeah I had one at 41 weeks and went into labour 48 hours later

i had mine at 40 weeks. It was awful, i definatley wont have one with this baby it didnt make a difference to me apart from feeling a bit vialated lol.I ended up getting induced at 41 + 2
