Babies weight and centiles in the red book

I just wondered whether any of you had babies who are following the lower centiles of the red book (not sure if that's the same out of the UK?)?

Sophie is doing well and growing steadily but she follows the lower centile of the book. She was weighed today and at 17 weeks she's 12lb 4oz, following her curve nicely and the HVs are happy with her.

She's purely breastfeed (bar one carton of formula I gave her today through desperation!) and certainly is growing out of her clothes!

I wonder how she compares with other babies around her age.

OOOooo, maybe we could have a weight thread to see how they are all growing? Very happy

At birth my DD was on the 25th centile for weight and the 75th centile for height so was really long and skinny. As she got older her weight went up to the 50th centile but then her height also increased to the 91st centile so she's always been low weight for her height.
My DS weighed more than DD at birth and was shorter!

chalies on the ast centile too and ive been through murder - everyone is on my case about his weight

he was born on the middle one and they all want him to jump back up there but after a 12% birth weight loss in the 1st week its just not gonna happen

Sophie has followed the 9th centile all the way, apart from at birth when she was slightly higher. She's not dipped at all so I'm not bothered.

Oh god how I hated those centiles!!!

Charlotte was great and followed the 25th every time, George followed the 25th for a while then decided he wanted to follow the 2nd instead - cue battles with the HV Crazy

Jake was born on the 25th and dropped to the 9th where he followed that nicely Very happy At his 9mth check he was 18lb and still on the 9th centile. The HV said as he was growing and following a curve it was fine. However they kept on about the size of his head (it was on the 9th at birth) dropped to the centile below and was following that fine but they still kept telling me his head was small even though it was growing and following a curve?? I gave up in the end, he is doing everything he is meant to do and has even been crawling since just before 5mth and cruising since just before 7mth. He is babbling and can now say a few words mama, dada, dougal, cuddly, hiya, ta. Although i have a feeling other people may struggle to understand what he is saying. Still, as i said, i have given up with the HV now, don't know what she expected me to do about the fact he has a small head? I can't stretch it and it is growing?? So we haven't been since Jakes 9mth check. He had a couple of jabs with the nurse the other day, but i am staying away from HV for a while, he is happy, healthy and i know he is growing - that's enough for me! Smile Xx

Meleah is between the 9th and 2nd centile she is under avaerage weight but she is also below the 2nd centile on height so i ma sure that has something to do with it why dont they ever take height into account. i am always at the docs as the HV says she is underweight and am now being transfered to a dietician to find out weither she actually is dairy intolerant or she just doesnt take the right things out of food.
they dont do head here so i dont know about that but as amanda said she is developinf fine could walk from just over 10mnths and so on so i cant see what the problem is she is perfectley healthy in every way

It makes me soo mad! Mad If she is under the 2nd centile for her height then she isn't underweight at all! I mean if she was on the 2nd centile for her height and was on the 50th/75th centile for her weight dhe would look completely out of proportion! Her weight is obviously right for her build hun!! I would understand it if she was really really tall and very very light? I would let it go in one ear and out of the other. As long as you aren't worried and she is doing everything she should then just ignore their silly comments! Xx

I was too busy working to really worry about this, although I do remember the ex marking these off on the chart. Frankly as long as they were happy and growing then I was happy.

Jack was born 10lb7 so couldn't really comment as each baby is an individual and will do things at their own rate.

I've decided not to bother with HVs for a while. I seem to get Sophie checked monthly for her weight as I like to write it in her little baby book I have for her but that's about it.

As everyone has said, they grow at their own rate and she's perfectly happy and healthy and growing out of clothes so I know she's fine.

I remember going up to get her weighed a month ago when she was 13 weeks and she was 11lb 5 1/2oz and there was a little girl there of 6 weeks who was 11lb 8oz! They are all so different.

Very happy

ive just dug out izzys book i never really understood all this though my friend had to pay close attention as her daughter was born 10 days over due (6 weeks after izzy) and weighed 4lb14oz

izzys birth weight was 7lb6oz putting her just above the 25th centile and until her first birthday her weight stayed inbetween 25th-50th centiles sometimes more towards the 50th and sometimes on or closer to the 25th centile.

izzys height how ever was between the 75th and 50th centile but i only had her height checked 3 or 4 times so at 6 wks she was just below the 75th and then at 30-31wks she was on the 75th and then at 41wks old she was just above the 50th and the last time i had her checked was at her year check up and she shot up to just below the 91st centile Shocked
