Arm goes blue in bath and is freezing in the morning

This is a bit of a weird one which I'm going to check with the HV tomorrow but wondered if anyone else has had anything like this.

I give Sophie a bath nightly and do it in her little bath in our big bath. I hold her, as you're supposed to, with my thumb and forefinger on her left shoulder (I hold with left hand) and middle finger and rest under her armpit, holding her arm gently and her head resting on my wrist.

I've noticed recently that within a couple of minutes, her arm goes a quite blue colour and where I'm holding her, goes bright pink! I don't know if it would happen with her right arm as I can't hold her that way around. I have consciously not held her tight but more 'supporting' her and it still does it. Soon as she's out of the bath, it starts to come back to pink again.

I'm wondering if she could have a circulatory problem with her left arm and being held under the armpit is affecting that with the artery/vein there?

Her left hand/arm is always freezing cold (and again, slightly blue-ish) in the morning too but she sleeps with both hands up, the left above her head and the right curled near her mouth (so she's breathing on that one and keeping it warm!).

Should add she has nice warm feet all night and I do put little gloves on her at night to help keep her hands warm. Bedroom is around 15-18 degrees C (no heating on at night) and she has appropriate blankets/sheet. She's bright as a button in the day, just this weird thing that's bothering me.

Any thoughts?

Aaralyn's always had cold hands and cold feet but good circulation I was always told... I would be concerned about the thing with Sophie's arm as well (not to scare you though), I think it's good you're checking with your HV and hopefully it'll be nothing to worry about Kiss

I would also check with the HV hun. I very much doubt it is anything to worry about though hun. Especially the night thing. If she sleeps with that hand above her head it is bound to be colder than the other one. Lolly's hands and feet are always cold too. Even to the extent that her preschool teacher askedif she had a jumper the other day as she felt cold but when i asked her to feel her back she was really warm! If i was carrying her as a baby on my hip her feel and legs would take on that blue colour after a while too. I was told it was nothing to worry about and tbh i think she may have grown out of it as i haven't noticed it for a while? Although i don't carry her as much anymore and so maybe i just haven't noticed it? I'm sure the HV will be able to allay your fears hun Kiss Xx

I held Sophie in a different way in the bath yesterday and no blue arm. Despite holding her what I thought was very lightly, perhaps I had just managed to get a position which caught her blood supply!

She's had circulation checked and all is ok.

George used to get blue hands and feet and even lips which was quite alarming. I took him to the GP and he checked his circulation which was fine, he said it would be something he would grow out of, which he has Smile
